Please learn......
« on: 13 December 2006, 19:52:17 »

If you insist on driving for most of the year with the ABS/TC light on, and drive to close to the car in front....

One day the driver in front (BMW) may stop 3/4 of a car length before the white line at an island!

Then when you depress the brake pedal  FIRMLY, your ABS will not work and you may slide straight to the scene of the accident  :'(

Last night, after 29 crash free years, I became a crash statsitic.

No one to blame but me  :-[

The bumper on the BMW had moved about 2mm, on the wheelarch/bumper gap.

My V grill will need the fixing holes repairing and I now have an Emerald green bonnet as the first 3" of the white one was folded down onto the slam panel  :(

Bit of rain, greasy road less than 20 MPH and not enough caution

Bit of a bugger really

Still at least I wasn't doing travelling at a higher speed  ;)

Aww unlucky! :(

It's never too good to hear of a crash. Hopefully the BMW driver doesn't try any funny stuff!

Good luck getting it repaired!! :)

Not good to hear.  Glad its the car and not flesh and blood.  Tin is easy, though expensive, to replace.  The other isn't...

No sign of reversing lights on the Beemer?   :-?     :D

Sorry to hear that M8...personally I never put any of them on, you find they kick in automatically if the car starts to go, rear end, skid etc..

sorry to hear that.

but if your t/c had been working properly you would have had no wheel spin and been able to floor it and rid the world of another BMW, whose indicators at the junction probably were not working anyway.

riding a motorbike you would be amazed how many new cars especially BMW's whose indicators don't work on such expensive cars 'cause its never the drivers fault that they don't.

Hope your okay and no else in car with you was hurt.

Crashed a year old merc (35k worth) straight into the back of another car....wasnt paying attention and fiddling with the stereo... :-[ .....hit a brand new bmw convertible...with private plates on it.(womans name on the plate)...roll bars went off on the bmw....straight through the cloth roof.....women sitting in the passenger side went mental at me....male driver was calm about it......i never heard anything about it even tho i reported it to my insurance comp....hmmmm maybe male not insured to drive it  ::) so never claimed  :-/
Insurance comp fixed my merc.....even tho i did nearly 10k of damage to it!  ::)

Bad luck indeed

Just goes to show though, how much distance you really do need to stop

Not suggesting you were tailgaiting, but when this happens it DOES bring home how dangerous tailgaiting can be and what the consequences are...

:-?  :-? I read it that Issunaz has a problem with the ABS/Trcation Control that he was getting around to fixing and had a bump as a reult, that's why they didn't 'kick in'.

Looks that way, he had "his mechanic" look at the car, said 2 bumper mounting brackets are broken, re-spray the bumper (faded red colour, well looked after  :-?) aluminium reinforcing bar in the bumper twisted.

£140 labour, £100 parts so I offerred to pay cash, as for that amount it would not be worth messing about with an insurance claim.

He then said that did not include the bumper bar

Told him to go and see what the actual cost is for cash and come back to me

BMW man said "he wasn't sure which way the car entering the island at his right was going as they weren't indicating, so he had to slam the brakes on to see which exit they were going to take"

It was a straight forward 4 exit island, middle 1 of a series of 3,  good visability of the access/exits as you roll upto them.

He just decided to stop short (as is his perogative) instead of rolling upto the line under gentle braking.

As I said before, relatively low speed, no-one hurt, and quite rightly its only bent tin  :)

Apparently so, via Hastings direct

He came back with a total figure of nearly £500.

Wasn't to impressed when I told him there was no way I was going to pay that much, so he can claim away and wait for the money.
