Title: Brake pad and oil capacity simple question .....
Post by: DrAndyB on 09 March 2019, 21:35:18
Hi all.

I Will be treating my dad's 2.2 Petrol to an oil and filter change and new pads.  Trivial question:

Also treating front lights to a spruce with the old polish and wet and dry - dab hand now at that !

Car not do that many miles.  Any simple things to check or do as routine whilst I am there on the 2.2.  (I did cam cover gasket last year as was starting to weep)

Thanks in advance.

Andy.

4.5 litres :y

Thought pads was metal plate outside with spring clip into the piston :-\

The oil that you don't use in the 2.2 will be enough to top off your V6.....
Although I found that pouring an entire 5l container of 10w40 into my 3.0l brought the level almost to the MAX mark on the dipstick.

I think you have got confused there.....
The early pads (9192123) with the hook shaped ends on the metal backing have the spring clip into the piston, whereas the later pad (9192124) fitted to the majority of Omegas have the springs on the outer edge, where the brake pad wear indicator clips on the inner nearside pad. The spring tension is taken up when the caliper is swung down over the pads.
I've not seen any definitive answer to the point about which side to place the pad with the rivited metal backing shim but I agree - I would be inclined to put it against the piston.

Thanks all.  Never thought to keeping the remaining oil for my V6 change  ;)  Good shout  :y

Yes its the 9192124 pads with springs built in the ends of pads so push down when close caliper onto it  :y, so will put the one with metal shim/back on the piston side.

Thanks all,
Andy.
