Any objection to a stupid question? What's IIRC at the end and is TECH2 like R2-D2 or C3PO? Damn, that's two stupid questions! Sounds possible though, pity Surrey is about 150 miles away.

Omega General Help / cruise for an MV6?
« on: 01 February 2008, 20:28:57 »
Hi guys, since losing my '98 MV6 I've been thinking of an elite, as the old girl didn't have cruise. Another later 2001 MV6 has come up and so can cruise go in there as a fitting? The seller says just fit the bits, my local Vauxhall garage says it's impossible to convert. Is there a forum member who maybe runs a garage that could do the biz as I'm a bass guitar player not a mechanic if it can in fact be done? Cheers for reading. If not I'm after an elite, low miles, late 3.0 or early 3.2 auto, no red tin worm.  :)

Thank you, I'm sure you are right. If I knew how I would! I'll investigate.

hi, just thought I would float this one on the forum, since losing my previous omega I am looking for mint low mileage 3.0 or 3.2 elite no older than R plate. Bit of a tall order but must be under 100k on the clock. Ideally in the midlands. Thanks.

Hi, am a new member as well, and I think that I have the best Omega, the MV6 with the carbon fibre dash and probably the best alloys you'll find on a Vauxhall. Naturally I am deeply biased so anyone who thinks differently is more than welcome to disagree. You'll have a job finding one of course, but it will be worth the wait. The problems you might encounter such as I did are groans from the back end (suspension bushes), a saggy back end (rear coils gone), water leaks (3 way valve gone), oil leak at the side (cam cover gasket gone), and a message which I think is "Dip/Beam Fld/Vision" on the computer display. This was the link gone from suspension to automatic headlamp levelling sensor. Still got that to fix sadly. Once you've done all that I have found that my local Vauxhall garage now remembers my name, smiles when I come in, now gives me a discount on the work done and takes me home asking how am I doing today!!!

I must be as mad as a box of frogs.

Billy the Bass.

yes you are correct, as I thought you probably might be! It was made in Oct 97, which I glean from a sticker that is on the inside of the boot mounted CD autochanger cover. It was sold on 1st Jan 98.

There was some kind of delay you see, the original sale date was Nov 97 but that date has been crossed out and 1st Jan 98 written in. That's what makes me think it's an early one and perhaps worth looking after.

Hi, found you in the VX performance magazine so I thought I would introduce myself and my MV6. Roxy as she is called is an Oct 97 3.0 in silver and there's not another one around where I live as far as I can tell. I think she might be an early one as well, and perhaps a future classic vauxhall if I can keep her going. Most I've seen seem to be either ex Police white ones or are on ebay being dismantled for parts.

On the subject of work, I paid £1800 in dec 06 for full brake replacements, new tyres, water pump, cambelt, service and suspension bushes. This month it's been a new back exhaust box and a leaking 3 way valve which was losing water at the back of the engine. I also apparently have an oil leak on the offside V of the block which will eventually fill up the spark plugs etc. Garage have quoted £350 or so (gulp!).

She still needs a new element for the drivers heated seat, and the the electronic fan symbol on the climate control has disappeared, there's now only an orange square under the 'auto' button. The tin worm has crept in to the rear offside door but apart from all that she is a great car.

One thing in particular which someone might know about is the replacement ECU's which are on ebay. Do they up the power to 230BHP just by plugging it in which sounds easy, or is there more to it than that? Is it safe? Lastly, if anyone knows the history of MV6's and might be able to confirm if mine is an early one and therefore worth maintaining then I would really like to know.

That's it for now, I'd attach a picture, but clicking on 'add a picture' in the tags list just seems to do nothing. Maybe a computer expert might put me right.

Thanks for reading,

Will G. (Billy the bass 'cause I play bass).

Garage changed cambelt as part of the deal as I queried this before purchase in answer to your question tunnie. Wound it up to a speed which was slightly indecent on the M6 toll on the way home and nothing fell off so felt good about that. have noticed a slight steering wheel 'squirm' under breaking so new discs seem in order in the near future. Fancied grooved EBC discs with 'greenstuff' pads. Will have to spend a bit of dosh on valentines day just to remind my dearly beloved that she is far more important than anything else and then I can get on with the serious business of sorting the brakes maybe. I remember on my old Senator that the pads had wear sensors whereas I don't see that after market pads do. Do miggys not have sensors any more then? I used to just bang the old discs off the Senator with a big 'ammer and pop new jobbies on sweet as a nut. Cheers guys KUTGW. 8-)

Since sadly losing my 98 MV6 last August, I have been a sad ex-Omega owner. There's not much out there that's such good value for the buyer. Maybe an Alfa 166 3.0 V6, but an Alfa? A bridge too far for me I think, and not as pretty as Omegas IMHO.

So it's just to let anyone know, who cares in any way, that I have just bought a 00W 2.5 Elite with 50k for £2799. Pity about the small reversing crease that I noticed in the back bumper which wasn't there when I viewed the car, and as the garage had it backed up against the fence when I came to collect I didn't see it until I got home (130 miles away). Yes I really did go 130 miles for it, I know, I must be crazy. Anyway, I think new front discs are in order as under heavy motorway breaking there is judder through the steering wheel. Apart from that it's as silver as the starship enterprise and better looking, but not as fast, or as big. But I like it. The BOSE speakers in the back which weren't in the MV6 are BASSY!!! Will be checking it out in detail next weekend when I've got the daylight. Will let you know how it goes. :D
