General Car Chat / Modified Omega B
« on: 29 December 2013, 13:09:33 »
 ???
???
I still own a 1995 Opel (Vauxhall) MV6 since 2000. It is stopped since 2006 and I've done only about 10.000 miles with it. What a great car.
I also read with interest the first tree pages about performance, and I disagree with some members who have the opinion that there are not much to do to increase performance.

I did modify mine.

All the mods where carried out in 2001, my car was then dyno tested and showed 271 PS. I don't remember the maximum torque but, ok, it came up strongly at only about 4.000 revs, but the torque at low revs was not affected. Once going uphill (the tarmac was wet) the wheels started to spin in third gear and I almost lost control. I thought there was oil on the tarmac and went to check it but, I found no oil or debris.

Most of the mods were bought or carried out in Germany and I will summarize those that I still remember:

1 - Cold Air Intake filter (BMC) with 76mm hoses. The air came from the front wheel arch (a hole had to be cut for that) and there are aluminum panels to keep the air more dense or cold.

2 - New larger throttle bodies and new plenum chamber (with intake trumpets at the bottom of the plenum).

3 - Bosch performance Fuel Injectors

4 - Bigger air mass meter.

5 - Schrick camshafts with longer duration and lift for street use and adjustable cam pulleys

6 - Reworked heads (ported and gasflowed), Del West valves, compression increased by 1 point, standard springs.

7  - ARP fasteners for the standard conrods.

8 - New billet Flywheel weighing 4Kg to replace the double mass flywheel (14 Kg or so) and new clutch.

9 - Tubular exhaust manifolds (3 to 2 to 1) with exhaust heat wrap.

10 - 200 cell cats.

11 - Complete Bastuck 63mm diameter stainless steel exhaust (manifolds adapted). Only one tube from the manifolds to the silencer. Gorgeous sound within the law and TUV approved.

12 - Magnecor 8mm Ignition Cables and NGK R spark plugs.

13 - Different thermostat.

14 - Bosch high pressure fuel pump (5 Bar) with flow regulation.

15 - New chip installed in Germany. It took a day in the dyno.

16 - Steinmetz quick shift gear

17 - Front and rear strut bars

18 - Bigger discs front. All disks drilled and grooved.

19 - KW coilovers Variant 2

The rest is bog standard including of course the rev limiter. It looks like a normal lowered car.

Ok, I could go for turbos and would have much more power, certainly more than 500PS/BHP, but I would then need a new Engine management system from Motec or similar, a crank from Pankl or similar, connecting rods from Arrow or similar, forged pistons from mahle or similar, bearings, rings, intercoolers, cometic gaskets or similar, engine valvetrain, dry sump, Xtrac gearbox or similar, aerodynamic appendices, and so on.
But that's not what I wanted at all.

Performance 0-100Kmh (0-62Mph) 5.5 seconds
Maximum real speed (tested in Germany) 280Kmh (174Mph).

Being a mechanical engineer and passionate about cars and bikes I had to do something.
Now that I'm retired and old I'll do other things.
Nowadays I wouldn't have done it.

Just thought you'd like to know that it could be done.

Omega General Help / Air condition
« on: 14 November 2006, 16:11:46 »
Hi,
My car has the old rotary air condition knobs but I aquired in eBay a 1998 climate control display with digital numbers. Does anyone know if this can be retrofitted and installed in a 1995 Omega with rotary knobs?

Hello to everybody. I am new to this forum, I discovered it yesterday through a search engine and I found it useful to share experiences.
I have a modified Opel Omega 1995 MV6. I don't use it everyday because I also have an Audi A6 2.5 TDI V6 and a 2000 1.6 Vetra B, but nonetheless I use it quite often.
I am from Portugal so the specs of my MV6 here in Portugal may differ from MV6 Vauxhalls in England.
There is no sunroof but apart from that everything is there (everything electric)including heated leather seats.

Modifications so far:
NGK racing plugs
Magnecor 8.5mm racing HT leads
Chipped from a German Chipping company
BMC Air Induction kit
3 into 1 exhaust manifolds (X2)
Bastuck Exhaust from the manifolds
200 cpi sports cats
large bore throttle body and modified plenum chamber
Uprated fuel pressure regulator 4 Bar
IMOTEC con rods (safe up to 11.000 RPM, but the crank can not withstand it)
ARP conrod bolts
Fidanza billet ultra lightened and balanced flywheel
uprated Courtenay clutch
Scrick fast road camshafts
Ligtweith alloy pulleys
Lexmaul air box
Modified heads (free flowed but with standard valves)
KW Variant 2 suspension (coil overs) fully adjustable with kony dampers
Grooved and drilled disc brakes from Germany
Steimetz short shift billet gearchange to eliminate the truck type gearchange on Omegas (no longer available)
HID Xenon headlights
cool running thermostat
17" wheels with 255/40 Continental Contisport2 tires
etc,

Dino tested 285 HP

Yesterday I posted that to diagnose the car I use OpelScanner and I recommend it to everybody. See it at http://www.obd-2.de. It is German but there is an English version (worth every cent).
I also have the cheapo TECH2 but is not comparable to the OpelScanner.

I would like to know if someone has experience with:
VAUX-COMM at http://www.onboarddiagnostics.co.uk/content/category/2/5/2/
and
Vaucheck from Gendan UK http://www.enginecheck.co.uk/vauxcheck/

I would also like to know why software diagnostic tools made a difference between 1997 and on Omegas and prior to 1997, because I see no difference.

Cheers to everybody.
