Title: Vintage voltage.

There are some impressive engineering solutions.

Nice little mid-seventies Lancia Fulvia  given the treatment recently.

Got a bit fed up with that after about episode 2, I'm afraid.

Guy seems to think he's some kind of rocket scientist for chopping up an old shed and bodging in a battery and motor. ::)

Some of the conversions have been rather cool, others sacrilegious IMHO.

Anything Italian really needs its quirky petrol engine breathing through twin DCOEs IMHO. Take that away and you're left with just a battle against rust and dodgy electrics. ;D

Perhaps they can give your 'soon to be purchased' Audi V10 the milk float treatment.

That would obviously be sacrilege, but if your car has the engine from a canal boat or cement mixer then why not. :)

Agreed. Exchanging an Italian V12 with 6 weber carbs for a bank of PP9's is against all that is right and proper. :y

Its sacrilege to do that to old classics. Should be hung, drawn and quartered.
A bloke just joined the Boxster forum who has converted one to a milk float. I posted that he should change his username to Ernie.
He didnt seem very impressed.  :D

Worryingly, I find myself agreeing with you. Electric conversions are best when the car's original drivetrain is crap, like a Mini or anything else afflicted with an A-series. They're also well suited to the conversion; a small light car doesn't need a huge motor, which reduces the requirement for lots of batteries, and there's room in the rear subframe for those, it's already a good city car but a poor cruiser. The real problem is that a good conversion is expensive enough to exceed the value of the car. By a lot.

That isn't the case with converting an E-type or Aston, but the drivetrain is a major part of the appeal of the car and they aren't the worst aspect of owning one.

The late brake show had a converted defender which was pretty smart.

Again, doing away with some wheezy diseasel lump.

Blimey, you sound just like someone I work with, who in a former life was a tuner and engine builder.  Are you sure you're not a mad nutter from Dudley, and hacked Kevin Wood's account? ;D

As much as I think electric is probably the (technically) best form of traction, I do have to concede you are 100% correct though.

The chap a couple of doors down has just acquired a brand new/freshly rebuilt looking roadster type thing... Looks like a 3/4 scale Bentley/Ford Model A hybrid that sounds like a stock car... Apparently it's powered by a Fiat Twin Cam. It could use an exhaust and a decent tune though as it idles rougher than a badger and sounds like half a big block running a 4" straight pipe ;D

His daily is an Audi TTS which says alot ::)

Sounds like one of the better Fiat Twin Cams, then. ;D

That.

They always promised a lot more than they actually delivered. Unless you wanted a fast Minor, because it was about the only readily available 4cylinder that fitted the stock bulkhead. Which was important because it houses the torsion bar for the front suspension.

Had two  131 super mirafioris the 1.6 and a 2.0 sports but Always wanted to make a nice Tuned 1.8 As they were a good balance between revs and torque. Both rusted away🙁

The kit car has the 2.0 fiat twin cam lump in it. In the next couple of years it'll be going spare if I get my way.  :y

Speaking of Fiat.

a pretty Fiat Dino with the 2.4 V6 from the Ferrari Dino would be nice.

I imagine they cost a bob or two these days.

Apparently there's some kind of hiatus on engine development in F1 with new hybrid engines due for 2025 which they're wanting to make sound like a "proper" racing car engine rather than the subdued ones they're running now.

Turbos always silence engines to a degree

Yeah, I worked with a guy in the 90's who had one of those. Very nice. :-*

It wasn't stupidly quick, but that engine made all the right noises and loved to rev.
