"Check Engine Oil" dashboard alert warning came on. Instant fuel consumption worsened but car drove apparently normally. Dip stick showed no oil .. completely off the scale .. empty? Went to local Kwik-Fit to inspect on ramps. LOTS of fresh oil had leaked and spread, blown backwards along lowest areas. Highest visible oil seemed to be on lowest part of Oil Filter. No water emulsion on oil filler cap so head gasket problem unlikely .. and oil leak is external. Filter change is long overdue .. maybe it has rotted away and leaked? Suggestions please.

Omega General Help / Oil and Filter Change - DIY or Garage?
« on: 25 March 2009, 00:01:14 »
Kwik Fit offer an oil and filter change for my 97R 2.5 Petrol for about £28 using Mobil semi synthetic oil. Seems good value, but no engine flush, just drain.

Do other garages offer a competitive service?

This is not much more than the cost of materials. Is there a catch? Is there any reason to do a DIY job?

Omega General Help / 2.5 V6 - Juddering and poor MPG
« on: 13 March 2009, 17:21:24 »
97 R plate Omega Elite 2.5 V6 Auto Petrol engine ran smoothly .. then suddenly juddering, especially at lower revs, with reduced power and petrol consumption almost doubled, typically 14-18 mpg. Juddering quite noticeable as soon as auto changes up to top gear at 2000rpm at just under 50 mph. Possibly not firing on all 6 cylinders? Or fuel flow .. jets/filter?

Burst SAI hose replaced so vacuum resolved ..  and breather hose .. but still juddering and poor mpg. MOT garage did quick review - thinks may be misfiring? - says exhaust unlikely to be the cause, even though rear box innerds emptied.

Paperclip test shows no faults.

Wondering if HT plugs/leads or Dis Pack could be the problem. How can I test these? Even accessing the plugs seems difficult.

Suggestions welcome please on possible causes to explore.

Omega General Help / Burst hose - Blowing Air?
« on: 28 February 2009, 15:52:08 »
97 R plate Omega Elite 2.5 V6 Petrol engine ran as smooth as velvet .. now suddenly lumpy with reduced power and petrol consumption almost doubled. Paperclip test suggests no fault. HT system seems ok. Found burst hose which seems to be blowing air ..  Slightly tacky rubber hose which can be squeezed and crimped with bulldog clip to seal temporarily, then engine runs better .. so looks like this is the problem. Black hose has marking ending 0020555 > ECU>. Location is at front of engine bay, just nearside of centre, running vertically near radiator fan then curved over to feed a black spaceship-style 2 inch circular device, quite high, which attaches to a bracket attached to the frame of radiator fan. The frayed burst is about 2 inches long near top elbow curve. Can somebody please identify this hose and its function, including where the lower end connects? Is it an easy DIY job to replace hose or a garage job? Do I need a replacement manufacturer hose part or a length of standard hosing? Assistance welcome please.

General Discussion Area / Car Prices Falling?
« on: 11 March 2009, 13:06:40 »
Second hand car prices seem to be falling further. See the Parkers website ..

http://www.parkers.co.uk/choose/Wizard.aspx

Enter your car Registration Number in the bottom section then click for Private Sale or Part Exchange. Do you believe these estimates are realistic? Valuations for Omegas seem particularly low.
