EGR is part of a strategy to reduce NOX emissions ONLY and of no use for anything else. In the UK, MOT stations can't even measure NOX, so it remains part of the type approval of the vehicle when new.

inducing exhaust gas into combustion does affect the flame properties - basically it reduces peak combustion temperatures, which is where the NOX is formed. But it also reduces performance quite markedly.

EGR is used only when needed during the EC drive-cycle used for the type-approval test. Mainly during the cold-start part. Most of the EGR use during normal running is to keep the system working and not for an emissions purpose.

To me, ticking the "auto please" box also means you'd have ticked the "I don't care how fast it is" box.

Worst case, drop a 3.2 in with a 3.2 ecu, and the car won't be any wiser :y

I've been mapping engines for twenty years now, both in the aftermarket and for motor manufacturers and have yet to come across a map for one engine that could be used in another.

3.2 engine with the corresponding ecu is definitely the way to go.

yes, quite a lot of difference.

to be very basic about it, there's 40 horsepower of difference, so you're going to be expecting the system to adjust for all of that. It may have the capability of adjusting for 5 if you're lucky.

I've never seen the need to swap the gearbox, mind. both of the cars I've done have lived very well with the original 'box. Even on the track.

I might entertain the idea if towing lots, though

3.2 is a great and very easy swap for a 2.6.

you'll need the engine and the engine controller, complete with the key chips and transponder.

and also the differential if you feel like it.

I'll have a spare crank and some, although not a full set of, con rods to replace your spun-bearing items.

This is usual fare for these - every engine I've stripped ( maybe twelve ) has been in some form of big-end failure,

there's no physical difference - they simply deleted the gasket and went RTV instead
