Hi
I know its been discussed at length but my elite as led side lights in that was in when i got it,
I seem to think someone on forum said all it needs is a relay and a fuse in F8 to activate it.
I looked at F8 but a normal fuse will not go in as its socket is different to the others. I know there are aftermarket kits but to be honest they look like xmas trees coming down the road too garish for me. So i did think if it was possible to hook up a ign controled supply to the side lights if that would work of course. Anyone got any thoughts on this,

I just wish they didn't look so much like cheap tack from Taiwan. If the LED's were diffused more and perhaps toned down a little they would be OK.

The latest Range Rovers look like they've just ram raided Maplins to me.

I have to agree with the rant here - someone is asking for help.

Although I do not know the answer, I have a feeling that there is a daytime light running option for the Omega for use in other countries without having to resort to the shite christmas tree look that we all despise, and thought it was something fairly simple to add ? Fuse and relay perhaps?

Hopefully someone will be along with a more helpfull answer

I agree totally.

The one that really gets me going is in the vehicles for sale section. If someone lists a 2.5 Auto Saloon then we get replies saying that "i'd have it if were an Estate" or a Diesel. HUH - it isn't though is it, so why bother responding?

Mine was a tongue in cheek reply to say that rather than faff about with DRL relays etc it's just easier to turn your lights on!

Let`s get the guy sorted and help him first, AND THEN, we can all blast him with comments about turning lights on with the switch and the crappy Maplin ram-raided look (I like that one!) and anything else we can think of -

are you saying you have actual DRLs fitted in addition to your sidelights or do you have LED bulbs for sidelights?

has the forum suggested the F8 fuse is required for an aftermarket kit in addition to sidelights or do the sidelights use the f8 fuse?

is it not possible that the aftermarket kits come with a fuse?

The wiring diagrams do show a relay K59 for daytime running lights fed from F8 so the "install F8 and a relay" solution is plausible. Unfortunately there is no indication where K59 normally lives or how much, if any, of the associated wiring is present in a non-DRL loom.

The relay appears to take inputs from the indicator switch and the oil pressure light so I'm guessing it does more than just turn them on with the ignition (possibly the oil pressure is to detect engine running?).

Relay appears to take a white 8 pin connector but where it is, or if it is, on a UK spec car is anybody's guess.

I think I'm in the "why not turn the lights on?" camp, TBH, but I've tried to help.

Oh, and the factory relay just switches on the dipped beams, not separate lights. Ideal if you like stumping up for HID bulbs regularly.

if you want them running why not just install a relay to the ignition live and run it to these led lamps wouldnt that just be so much simpler???

and by that i mean aftermarket relay the wiring to do this is rather simple and you can even buy the relays all fully wired up too

Thanks for all replies and comments but to clarify the sidelights Danny These are the four leds in a cluster and even in daylight are quite bright (not like me i might add) but was in the car when i bought it. I just wondered if these could be fed by an ign controlled circuit and a diode to stop power going back up to switch when light circuit was off but what would happen when the power came from the switch. And yes i do switch on the lights in the dayime but the downside is the dash goes into night time mode if its not feasable then no i wont do it. Also most of you are right the fronts of the audis and mercs look like xmas rope lights very garish if that is the only option then i wont be having it. In the words of the old TV program " I only arsked"
and i do believe they are too bright I've noticed the insignias use the side light circuit and lighting is more subtle and finaly i think it is a good idea to have lighting during daytime as i am not in my car all the time i too am a pedestrian now and then.
