Omega General Help / 2002 2.2DTi RAC diagnose Alternator problem?
« on: 19 November 2014, 20:23:38 »
Hi All,

I would appreciate some help with this problem if you would be so kind,

Drove along today and suddenly on comes the abs, seat belt tensioner/airbag and emissions lights.
I looked again and the speedo, rev counter, fuel guage and temperature all read zero.
Did about a mile looking for a place to pull in, and before I could find one the 3 warning lights went out and everything else started working as was.
Continued home and did another 12 miles, no problem.
Car ran perfectly before, during and after this incident.

Went out again later, did 15 miles (in the dark) and 2 of the lights mentioned above came on, followed by a dimming of the dash lights, quickly followed by the car cutting out and all lights off.
Just enough power left for a weak hazard light to work.
Called out the RAC and guy put some sort of meter across various things (dont know what) and declared that the alternator was probably beggard.
Took off my battery and put on one of his, and said it should get me home, and he followed me and then changed the batteries back.
He left me a report saying, no alternator light. not charging. checked earth. could not check live + battery sensing wire due to it being behind the turbo as the turbo was too hot.

So do I go straight to local garage and ask them to fit a new alternator, OR is there some member of this forum who is willing and able to look at this for me,
obviously for money,  bearing in mind I cant move the car anywhere just now.

Finally, any idea how much a new fitted alternator is likely to cost at a garage, is it a big job.

Omega General Help / 02 2.2Dti CD spec and bulb queries
« on: 11 September 2014, 22:08:53 »
Hi Guys,
I have an 02 2.2Dti CD and have just discovered I have rear foglights but no front ones, I assumed they were both fitted as standard so am wondering why I only have half of them?

Also the information display thingy with the time/date/temp in it, I assume the bottom half of that screen is meant to show something but mine does not, surely I dont just have half of that as well?

While I am at it may I also enquire if it is possible to fit Osram Nightbreaker bulbs as a direct replacement for my current halogen bulbs.

ps. if anyone knows of an omega diesel mechanic within 70 miles of sussex, who is willing to travel or works from home please let me know.

Thank you

I would appreciate your opinion on the following please.

I have had a 2.2 dti estate for a month and done 900 miles, it starts well and runs like a dream and has 110k on the clock.
Two days ago after a trip of 25miles I parked for 2 hours and then it just would not fire, after trying many times I had to call out the RAC.
Mechanic got it going after 'cracking an injector' and he said there may be air in the fuel system and to take it to garage as it will happen again.
He also said that because there was 'only' a quarter tank of diesel it may be that the fuel had run back down the pipe as the car was parked on a slope and it may be cured by keeping it filled up more !
I have never had a diesel before so am wondering whether this is possible especialy as the slope was virtualy nonexistent, but then today the same thing happened and I had parked nose up on another very slight slope.
On this occasion it did start eventualy as I kept my foot right down on the accelerator which he told me I should have done the first time it happened.
I have booked it in to a garage but am worried that they could spend hours looking for the cause of this, or is it true what the RAC man said,  and if it happens again is there a simple way I can get it going again myself.
