The divide between the North and the South.

The difference between shandy drinking bed-wetting southerners, and flat cap wearing whippet owning mushy pea loving northerners. ;D

Well....I found it funny. ;D

That is so near to being the truth! ;D ;D ;D ;D

When travelling around London everyone keeps their heads down and tries very hard to not communicate with others.

In the northern part of England I have found the complete reverse of that and have had so many good conversations out of the blue with Liverpudlians, Lancashire and Yorkshire folk especially, but strangely even fellow Southerners suddenly overcome come their life long reticence and find their voices beyond even saying "Hello"!!! ::) ::) ;D ;D ;D ;)

Best thing we ever did was move out of London in 1987, was back down there earlier this month for a funeral and was glad to get back home, got to go back on Thursday to have valuations on two properties that have been left to SWMBO how quickly they sell remains to be seen, could be a Bentley Turbo in the garage soon if all goes to plan..😁

I think the North / South divide is a media creation. If it does exist at all, its wildly exaggerated.
Gives people a reason to have a moan and have a chip on their shoulder.

I lived in London for long enough. The reason people don't speak to each other is because they don't speak each others language.

True.  ;D
Most English speakers moved out years ago. The poor ones to Clacton, the wealthier ones around me. Its easy to spot them, they all drive out in front of me at junctions.  ::)
They live in big houses, drive nice cars and talk like Phil Mitchell.  ;D

Even the black cab drivers commute in from Essex. Or at least they did, till Uber took over.

A lot live in Thanet. Imagine running up and down the A299 and M2 everyday in a black cab, a car that makes a Defender feel like a masterpiece of ergonomics and comfort.

I was on leave in Liverpool from Catterick, with a few other squaddie mates. We missed the last train on Sunday night and we knew we would be in very deep shit if we weren't there on Monday morning. So.......we got a black cab!  ;D
The driver couldn't believe his luck, it was mid 70's and he charged us £50....up front, of course. 60 mph flat out for about 4 hours, and he had to turn around and drive back. Happy days.

One of the properties left to SWMBO is in Purley Surrey regarded as a good area but not all have garages & the road is fairly full of parked vehicles making it quite difficult for those who have driveways to get out into the road easily , I would imagine the property will be valued at around £700,000 that's about double what ours is worth personally I wouldn't pay £250,000 for it.

Yep. Its about 8 miles from me and is a shithole. Rarely go near the place.

Its probably more than doubled in size since you were last there.  ;)
It has 3 Big Tescos, a Sainsburys and a big co-op which it wouldnt have been able to sustain then.
Its also 20 minutes along the new A120 to the M11 and Stansted, so a real commuter town.

Whilst Purley is technically in Surrey (just), it is essentially a suburb of Croydon which is a very different Surrey to the bit outside of the M25 ::)

And it doesn't matter what it cost, but a three bed semi is still a three bed semi ;D

Me and the wife to Southend in the nineties when we lived in London. We parked up, had a walk along the front and settled in a pub for a drink. There was a convoy of escorts, with the bass turned up, driving very slowly (cruising?) back and forth, turning back at the roundabouts each end. Back and forth, back and forth, all fickin evening.  ;D ;D  We had to stop our conversation every five minutes or so, till they'd driven past.

Early nineties?

I might have been there; it made a change from the street racing at Maidstone bridge, although it is frustrating having to go up to Dartford and back down the A127 when I can see South End sea front from the top of my road ;D

As a generic Northerner, - Born in Manchester. Raised in Cheshire and Miseryside, studied in Coventry, lived adult life in Brum, Yorkshire and Liverpool, I find that mostly people are the same all over the world.  They worry about similar things.
I'm about to start negotiations on converting from.Freelance to Permie, at my Current contract, and my boss was until recently paying £2k a month rent in London. My aspirations on pay are probably lower than he will expect because he has no northern calibration.

My wife likes to suggest that's why I'm a idiot.
Parents first house was in Moss Side.
Both Lancashire born. 54 years later they live in Anglesey and Dad speaks Welsh better than most Welsh. Funny old world.

It was about that time the youth of the day walked around with a giant wogbox perched on their shoulders. You could hear them for miles around.
