I used to visit a mate in Braintree when I was at Colchester. It was lovely then, no doubt full of London exiles now.
It hasn't fared well. A bit wild west now.

One of the properties left to SWMBO is in Purley Surrey regarded as a good area but not all have garages & the road is fairly full of parked vehicles making it quite difficult for those who have driveways to get out into the road easily , I would imagine the property will be valued at around £700,000 that's about double what ours is worth personally I wouldn't pay £250,000 for it.

Youngest daughter lives in Braintree now[they moved there when her husband left the army] I've never been there so can't comment on what it's like.

I used to visit a mate in Braintree when I was at Colchester. It was lovely then, no doubt full of London exiles now.

Yep. Its about 8 miles from me and is a shithole. Rarely go near the place.

Its probably more than doubled in size since you were last there.  ;)
It has 3 Big Tescos, a Sainsburys and a big co-op which it wouldnt have been able to sustain then.
Its also 20 minutes along the new A120 to the M11 and Stansted, so a real commuter town.

Used to go to Southend in my youth think that comes under Essex, that was a dump back in the seventies, probably a lot worse now.

Whilst Purley is technically in Surrey (just), it is essentially a suburb of Croydon which is a very different Surrey to the bit outside of the M25 ::)

And it doesn't matter what it cost, but a three bed semi is still a three bed semi ;D

Me and the wife to Southend in the nineties when we lived in London. We parked up, had a walk along the front and settled in a pub for a drink. There was a convoy of escorts, with the bass turned up, driving very slowly (cruising?) back and forth, turning back at the roundabouts each end. Back and forth, back and forth, all fickin evening.  ;D ;D  We had to stop our conversation every five minutes or so, till they'd driven past.
