Wimbledon accident.
« on: 09 July 2023, 14:42:27 »

Tragic incident, but what on earth happened ? The vehicle looks to have travelled across a grassed area & from what is visible in the photo I've seen there are no marks from applying the brakes, drink or drugs perhaps, or maybe taken ill at the wheel, how on earth do you live with yourself after taking the life of an innocent child? Or possibly two I believe one is critical.

Technical malfunction :-\

Dry, short grass on sunbaked soil won't show much of anything from an aerial photo.

Vehicle doesn't appear to have hit the building at any sort of speed. The fence/hedge wouldn't have stopped a golf cart.

Driver has been rightly charged on the immediate evidence, but technical evidence from the car will paint a very back and white picture of what actually happened.

Looking at Street view, she's gone down Camp Road, possibly swerved left to negotiate an oncoming car on the right hand bend and driven straight through the fence to the left of the entry gate.

It's possible that inappropriate speed played a part, but there isn't a lot of space for reacting, and the shock of hitting the railing won't have helped any.

'Drive' down the road on Streetview and you can see how easyily it would have happened.

Not making excuses for the driver, but it was inevitable looking at the road.

Here's a question... Can someone suffering a previously undiagnosed episode actually be held accountable for their actions or lack of. And, perhaps more importantly, should they be?

Dad had two near identical accidents in the space of three months. Basically he drove into the back of a parked car in a Norfolk village at night with limited street lighting. Second was identical circumstances, might even have been the same place. ::)

First was dismissed as a simple fault accident with no further action taken. Second went to court and he was charged with driving without due care. The court also suggested that he had a medical check up and it turned out that he had Type 2 diabetes and had probably blacked out whilst driving.

So, was he actually responsible for the either collision, and had he been obliged to be medically assessed following the first, would the second collision have happened?

Something to consider as none of us are getting any younger.

Obviously none of that is to say that if you make a poor decision or  otherwise fIJck up, that you shouldn't own it.

Ultimately, what ever the sequence of events that results in something like this happening, it won't change the outcome.
