I believe that regarding ABS ECUs the 'need to know' bits are as follows

-so long as engine and gearbox match, you're good. Bodystyle, year, trim etc don't matter.

Excluding the following...

-Different ABS/TC system on the PFLs, so a '97 won't go on a '96 car...

Unless I've missed anything crucial and pertinent your yourself Mr Gav, you should be able to use any MFL-onward 3.0 ABS ECU.  :)

The ecu can usually be repaired by specialist companies.  The brakes will still work with no ECU, but obviously no ABS/TC/Speedo etc.

It`s intermittent at the moment but starting to not work more than work now. Brakes are fine just as you say no speedo or ABS or TC.

I didn`t know they could be repaired, I`ll have a nosey and see what I can dig up, cheers  :y

It's a good few years ago as it was the old 2.5 .. but I had that one repaired by BBA Reman  ...   http://www.bba-reman.com/uk/index.aspx  and was very happy with their work, I believe it is still good although other firms now do similar ..

http://www.ecu-repairs.com   I "think" is one MarkDTM used to support .. might be wrong though ...

I've a Abs pump complete with a working module from a manual 2.5 v6 (97 model) here if needed  :y

If it has Tc then you might be lucky :y

Don't think the facelift part matters as it's not a dbw engine :-\

All V6s had TC, didn't they? Just the issue of whether it's the 1 or 2 channel TC system, and there's 'two' ABSs, 3 or 4 channel, as well, iirc? But going from a 97 PFL onto another PFl this should all be fine, I thought. (Scratches head)

OK, lets clarify, as there is some confusion on these 2 threads.

A PFL ABS will not fit a MFL/FL or vice versa

In addition to age, V6 ABS will not fit non V6, or vice versa.

Beyond all that, the ABS is programmed for vehicle config (engine and drivetrain), but this is reprogrammable via Tech2.

Last LETTER of VIN for PFL is R,S,T or V
Last LETTER of VIN for MFL is W or X
Obviously a Facelift is instantly recognisable.

So I basically need a facelift 3l manual ECU so I don`t need to faff about with Tech 2?

BTW is it located under the passenger seat a la Senator or with the ABS pump?

TIA

on the V6 its under the ABS pump and is a tad "awkward" to change ... there are a few ways to attack it .. this is just one ..

Ideally not one I'd like to do in winter... but at the same time, complicated though it looks, it's really just a case of 'I need that thing out... can't get to it...take that off... still can't...move that...ah, there we are' so not bad once you get going  :)
