As above. Happens after about 5 minutes. Changing from 2nd to 3rd is feels like it looses drive for a few seconds then eventually finds 3rd. Sometimes with a thud. Gearbox level is ok and it had a partial oil and filter change (5 litres). It seems a little better but not much. Maybe another Atf change to flush most of the old out or may I be looking a a solenoid/selector problem?

Probably the solenoids starting to get sticky or the plates .

Best advise is budget for a replacement box,as tbh by the time you have messed about with oil/filter changes without any success the box is probably in need of a major overhaul which for the cost of a replacement just isnt worth the hassle.

I speak from experience after chasing a very similar probelm on my old Elite for several months and eventually bit the bullet and got the whole thing changed,but even that is alottery unless you know the history of the replacement.

Sorry its probably not the answer you wanted but they dont last for ever

In my experience the thud 2nd to 3rd is very likely to be the solenoid - does it seem to hold 2nd then thud?

And i had it too on a Ar25 box...Thud feels like you have just been hit in the rear and Drive goes for a few seconds..Had full fluid change the box updated. But managed to sort it in the end...With a used Known good box going in....

Yes it will hold the gear for much longer then change. The thud isn't horrendous but it's defiantly there.

My experience would suggest that its the solenoid, JPAT sorted me out and its been fine since. I did the Thrust Washer and Fluid while I was in there.

How difficult is it to change the soloniod itself?

I can't seem to get the soloniod  out? Just it just pull out or is there something else I need to be doing?

There is like a split dowel to remove

    Twist and pull gently

They can break... Mine were pulled out with a pair of them micro cheapo molegrips
