General Discussion Area / Chagos Islands
« on: 24 January 2025, 11:08:36 »
Apparently Trumpy is exploring the idea of purchasing the Chagos Islands from Mauritius, after Starmer and Lammy meekly surrender them and the Union Flag is pulled down.  ::)

What a humiliation that would be!  ::)   Although I suppose it would save the reported £9 billion of taxpayers cash that those idiots have agreed to pay to rent the base. On the other hand Trump will surely charge us, if we want to keep a military presence there?  ???

Farcical!  :-X

Arise Sir Sadiq Khan!  :-X

Unfortunately I believe this is true and he has been given a Knighthood in the New Years Honours list.  ::)

What a joke!  >:(

General Discussion Area / What's Happening?

All the news bulletins are dominated at the moment by a middle aged TV presenter who apparently has said a few saucy things to women.  ::)

There must be something going on somewhere that they don't want us to know about, or think too much about.  ???    :-X

MP's voted for the 'Assisted Dying Bill' today, so when your time comes, or maybe before, you might get offered a little jab to help you on your way.  :-\

Ringworm, a condition that we all probably thought was consigned to the history books along with things like Tuberculosis and Rickets is apparently making a comeback.  ::)

The rise in infections has been linked to dirty unsanitary barber shops.  :-X

General Discussion Area / UK Defence Cuts
« on: 21 November 2024, 18:04:34 »
Yesterday, in an ever increasingly unstable world, John Healey the Defence Secretary announced a £500m cut in the defence budget in Parliament. As part of this cost cutting programme HMS Albion and HMS Bulwark, the Royal Marines amphibious assault ships will be scrapped. A Type 23 frigate, HMS Northumberland will also be scrapped. Chinook and Puma helicopters will go and the most unbelievable thing...  an army drone programme will be scrapped. Meaning that if we ever got into an artillery shootout with the French, our artillerymen would be shooting blind. Maybe they will be expect to buy their own drones from Amazon?  ::)

Article by Ben Wallace, former Defence Secretary.

Meanwhile our genius of a Foreign Secretary has signed a defence and security pact with Moldova!  :)  Saying...  "Moldova is a vital security partner for the UK, which is why, to reinforce their resilience against Russian aggression and to keep British streets safe, I am deepening cooperation on irregular migration and launching a new defence and security partnership."  ::)

We should view this as a good thing as I'm sure that the plucky Moldovans will rush to our aid if Macron mounts an overt invasion force across the Channel, as opposed to the secret invasion force he's been sending for the last few years, who we've been kindly accommodating in nice hotels for him.  :)

Interestingly, there is hardly any mention of this pact in the UK media, but you will find articles about it in the foreign media. Zero Hedge, Reuters, Straights Times, Barrons...  Make of that, what you will...  :-\

General Discussion Area / Float Valves
« on: 28 September 2024, 21:45:57 »
I need one.  :)

The old one I've pulled out of the central heating expansion tank is 30 years old so it's done well, and is a Part 1 type where the water pours out of a hole underneath.

Screwfix have those, but also have Part 2 types with a little spout on the top. Is there any advantage of the Part 2 over the Part 1?  ???

https://www.screwfix.com/p/flomasta-brass-part-2-float-fill-valve-1-2-/352jn#product_additional_details_container

I was going to change it like for like, but thought I'd check with the intelligentsia here first!  TIA!  :)

General Discussion Area / What Has Happened Here?
« on: 06 September 2024, 11:43:58 »
A few years ago my mate in Scotland had his Arctic Cat350 quadbike nicked from outside his house. He reported it to the police, got the crime number and that was about it.  :(

Anyway, yesterday he checked the Reg no to find that it now comes up as a Honda TRX 475 quadbike and the online records show that it has an export marker.

Now presumably the original quadbike is long gone and is either rounding up sheep in Ireland or has been broken for parts, but given that it has been reported as stolen, would DVLA reallocate the reg number?  ???

What's the export marker all about?  ???  They could only do that if they had the V5. They didn't have the original, and surely couldn't get a new one from DVLA for a stolen vehicle?  :-\   Unless McPlod were extremely slow at marking it as a stolen vehicle, if they even bothered?  :-\

 A mystery....  ::)  :-\

A bit of levity to lighten things up.  :)

It's less than a month since our shiny new PM was elected and he's already being lampooned!  ;D

I think we can all guess what's happened here?  ???   ::)

In all of the reports I've read so far, all they've said about the attacker is that he was riding a red moped and was wearing a blue NATO bomber jacket. Other than that, there are no physical descriptions.  ::)

Kent Police have already trotted out the standard mental health line....  :-X

General Discussion Area / Private Dentist
« on: 08 July 2024, 15:27:38 »
I've just made an appointment for a checkup with a private dentist.  £35. Which seems pretty reasonable.  ???

They charge £65 for the hygenist, which I'm expecting them to recommend, as I haven't had that done for years.  ::)

It gets expensive when they tell me my teeth are Donald Ducked and all need replacing with implants!  :D

General Discussion Area / Julian Assange
« on: 26 June 2024, 17:37:00 »
I can't make my mind up about this fella TBH.  :-\

Tell you what though, I'm sure there will be a Hollywood blockbuster made from his extraordinary story and he won't be short of a bob or two.  :y

He'd probably be wise to stay in Australia for the foreseeable though...  ::)
