General Car Chat / Corsa C Clutch Help

The youngest broke down yesterday, just round the corner helpfully, I was working away less helpfully.

He rang home, by the time the other 2 walked down to him an Ex-Recovery bloke on a motorbike had stopped to help him, diagnosed snapped clutch cable without looking at anything, he started it for him and drove him home with no clutch.  Some nice people out there!

Ive had a very brief look, and could see no signs of any cable, but the car was sat in brake / clutch fluid and I saw this pipe disconnected, looks like some sort of quick connect like a hosepipe fitting.  As you can see, looks a bit grotty, so initially reluctant to just push it back in, and guess it needs replacing.  Anyone aware of anything other than age that would cause that to just pop out, or should I be good to find the other end, disconnect and replace it, any advice, bleeding procedures greatfully received!

General Discussion Area / Boiler Advice

My (80 year old) Dad has a 30ish year old Ideal Classic FF270.
This year Ive just discovered its not been working well for him.
Had it serviced, and apparently it cuts out every few minutes, no wonder its not working too well.
His 'heating man' had gas valve in bits, and said either new gas valve or PCB required.  Its had neither in 30 years, but has had a new fan.  He claimed not available, and new boiler required.
He quoted for neither......Reading between the lines a job my dad put him onto turned a bit sour due to many call backs due to user error (I know the person, and avoid them too)

So, 2 mins on google confirmed it was a well regarded boiler, and parts are available.

Another company has been provided with this info, and will come out and replace those parts for about £500, but have suggested a new boiler would be a better option (I'm less convinced, ill have to manage the change etc).  Plus that is relying on the other diagnostic, so may go up or down from there.

Thoughts and advice?

Fix or replace intitially.
If replace, what's a respected make these days? 
He is on his own in a 4 bed detatched, traditional water cylinder and rads. He likes a bath, not a shower.  Suspect he would be better with a replacement system boiler than a combi, but after the hive mind advice too.

General Car Chat / Golf not starting

So the Mk6 2.0 Golf wont start today.

we have a P2296 - Fuel Pressure Regulator 2 Control Circuit High - Intermittant and no other engine codes.

Got about an 80 mile range left, so fuel 'should' be ok.  Battery voltage is fine.

Just cranks, doesnt sound like its trying to catch.

A bit of digging has taken me to the High Pressure Fuel Pump, and a guide to change it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w6W19K40mpk
But not 100% sure on the diagnosis.  Any ideas to prove thats the issue?  Ive reseated the connector on the top of it, but thats it really.

General Car Chat / Corsa C Alternator

My youngest (only passed his test a week or so back) went to start the corsa (C, 1.2 petrol, 53 plate) virtually dead.

He got taken where he was going in another car and I got it onto charge.
It then started fine, went for a drive, and battery light came on and battery low when it got home again.
Charged it up again (mostly) and went away for a couple of days.

Some diags yesterday.

12.2v sat on the drive
dropped a bit with electrics on
down to about 10 cranking
back up to 12.1 at idle, or fast idle with load, not much difference.
No obvious heat in battery cables, looked no further than that yet.

So at this point to me its pointing at the alternator, low output.
Is this guide likely to apply to a Corsa alternator does anyone know? https://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90512.0

Or am I best just replacing it, any caveats if I do the job, access doesnt look great fun and theres a bloody great spring tensioner in the way too.

I have been given (local village group) and old Qualcast Suffolk Punch 30s (80219) with a few issues...Not starting being the main one...
I was having a little tinker, and making some progress, alongside using my Bosch Rotak....which let the magic smoke out last week..

So I need to sort this properly, or buy something different.

I beleive it dates from late 80's - 90's and wasnt exactly well thought of when new...

So, Its had a new plug, new oil, new fuel pipe, cleaned the carb.

It is now difficult to start, the pull handle feels like its going to fall of at the next pull every time.
The carb leaks fuel badly, choke spring? bit looks bent, doesnt seem to do anything - suspect it had E10 in it, which disolved bits, and clogged the engine.
However once running, its ok, and I can squash the grass just fine with it.

So, I need to find the bits to make it seal...or replace the carb.  Ive seen a load at £10-15, not sure if they will fit or not.
Ive cleaned and adjusted the blades, so it has a (slim) chance of cutting / tearing the grass next time.....both the blades and the bottom blade are very very pitted.

I can buy one of those sandpaper clip on jobbies to try and bring the blades up to a degree.
Bottom blade I don't think theres much I can do for it if needed, but there are some pattern ones out there.....removing this seems tricky due to spinning captive nuts once youve loosened it most the way.

Possible pull starters available.

So...20-30 quid may may get this usable...maybe up to £100 if it needs more parts and I can actually identify and swap the right bits...

OR

its buy another....but which, I'd certainly rather have rotary than a cylinder like this....love the but when they are right, but weve a fair bit of gravel thats often hidden in the lawn....so suspect keeping it right will also be awkward.

I remember a recommendation of Atko Admiral, which theres a couple, but nothing local.
Or a few hundred on a more modern contraption.

Weve enough lawn, with bushes dotted in it that electric is / was a pain.  Battery's not enough power / longevity. So will need to be petrol, some slopey bits, no needs to be manoeverable easily enough too...this bugger's heavy and doesnt like it.

General Car Chat / Golf PCV Valve replacement or just Diaphram

The golf has a variety of intake air leaks flagged.  Google sent me to the PCV valve, which is indeed broken (the diaphram).

Anyone been here before?
