I think all the clickbait is on brand spanker new cars.

As far as I can ascertain, her dirty diesel will remain £0 ? And mine £335 (184g/km) ?

I believe a few years ago they talked of putting extra taxes on fuel and scrapping car tax.

So Pensioners for example who did a 3 mile round trip for a weekly shop would benefit, The reps who drive a 1000+ miles a week then pay more. All based I suppose a way of paying  only for the wear and and tear of the damage to the roads.

Downside is the haulage companies pay more then charge more and the costs are passed on for groceries, goods and other trades.

Pro's and con's each way, no matter what it would p/ss some people off
I'm sure Racheal from accounts will find a way to do both.

We are already banned from charging either own own plug-ins or official company cars at work.  Obviously the vans can be.

The main reason I started this thread is because Mrs Opti wants her next car to run on 'elastictrickery'. She rarely travels more than 100 miles in any one day. However, she thinks electric cars are the future whether we like it or not.......so presumably it is some sort of economic decision

Quite strange really considering her politics are even further to the right than that of Albitz and TB, and she would be quite happy to club a baby seal to death.... >:D
I actually agree for some, possibly lots of, people, milk floats are the answer.

They should be more reliable and longer lasting that ICE.  They have all the right torque in the right places. They don't need heavy gearboxes and the driver doesn't have to concern themselves with gears and clutches.

Ignoring costs, they have a few pitfalls though.  Travelling beyond their range is problematic due to charge times (and chargers and public charge costs in the UK make it worse).  Regularly depleting the battery below around 30% is harmful to battery life.  Battery and motor maintenance is specialised and time consuming, thus expensive.  Lithium batteries are volatile, and even minor scrapes tend to write the cars off as the batteries cannot be trusted not to suffer "thermal events" in accidents, even if the battery pack appears to be untouched. Cheap home charging only allows around 70-120 miles of charge per cheap rate overnight charging. Driving any quicker than miss daisy mullers range,

General Discussion Area / Re: VOIP - Progs/Apps

If you want integration to the phone networks, you are looking at something SIP.  All these stupid apps don't come close, though they do offer the advantage of video calls if that's important.

SIP can work with dedicated SIP handsets, or your existing landline handsets via an adapter, or via apps on mobile*. It does need a *GOOD* internet connection with stable latency.  Mobile broadband isn't up to the job, due to latency jitter.  It say if your internet is good for online Fraggin', its more than good enough for SIP.

As the phone providers in the UK shut down the PSTN in the next couple of years, your normal provider will automatically move you to SIP (but most will carry on charging you the same price).

I have been using SIP as my landline for probably the past 20 years, works will, and with the right provider, far, far cheaper than using the traditional phone companies. I pay 1p per minute to call my elderly relatives in Canada on their landlines.  My provider has no monthly charge, and I top up with a tenner about every 2 years...   ...must be billy no-mates ;D

*some apps need to be open on mobile to receive calls, and if not on a good wifi, suffer all the issues that mobile networks have with data streams.  Some apps hammer the phones battery, such as Zoiper (which is what I use when I go on hols)

Put some new rear tyres on hers earlier in the week.  She's such a hooligan, I think they only lasted 20k ;D

Shall we tentatively try and arrange a date / time? I've messaged Al, so hopefully he can join us too!

Should I create a new topic, or carry on here?

I'll make sure I've got 7-8 cars available for testing / general poking around that day.
I'd say make some early plans.  Might be better for when its actually a bit warmer/dry ?

I use Autonational Rescue and they cover cars of any age.
Same outfit as Autoaid, Autoaid covers the person in any car, Autonational cover the car with any driver.

For my needs, we need the personal type cover :y

If they're getting weak, the cold highlights it.

Some 3in1 on the clips a day or so before can help free them up along with a slim, flat screwdriver. Obviously try not to stab your, the windscreen or bodywork as you do them and change one side at a time.
Starting with weakest, and if the remaining strut is not strong enough, borrow a set of hands from passers by

I’m guessing you pay considerably more than me. I’d suggest about 2-3 times more for basic relay ;)

Replace in pairs always best idea. Generally f one is tired, other won’t be far behind.

The quick release clips can be fiddly if not done one before

I think sit-down chinkys.  And Brakkers and surrounding area is completely devoid of them.

I feel a plan forming ;D
