Heater Bypass Valve delete?
« on: 10 November 2024, 12:14:29 »

I've not been getting much heat in the cabin for the last 18 months, so a matrix flush is on the cards. I have the 'winter pack' pump fitted (and associated pipes) so to simplify things I'm going to remove it completely, as I've no use for it.

Which brings me to the HBV. The air-con / climate hasn't worked for many years, and I'm not fussed about that, so is it possible to remove the HBV and blank off the 3rd pipe?

I can't find a system diagram, so I'm not sure if this is possible, seeing as I'm only ever going to need heat in the winter. Does the HBV do anything else, such as reduce flow to matrix when no heat required, or can the car happily run without one on full flow?

I don't put much faith in having to keep flushing the matrix. If it needs that or doing so doesn't make much improvement, it's time for a new matrix and some MTFU pills to aid fitting it. My car went from barely getting warm(even after flushing) after several miles to that heater needs turning down by the end of the road.

It's not a nice job, even after the pills and cutting the dash ::) , but is worth doing.
