People scoffed at my comment about our rotting corpses in the street , plenty of time yet , maybe just in time for Christmas , seasons greetings:y
???
Christmas is 4 weeks away yet  :-\

With every new Covid case ,the Virus replicates a billion times ,mutations (mistakes in replication) are very common  :(
the south African variant of concern I mentioned weeks ago when OOF debated mask wearing after lifting of all restrictions .

50,000 plus new confirmed cases today with perhaps 90% of people not bothering to wear a mask in shops  ::)
mass vaccination  helped keep the death numbers down ,it didn't stop the spread and inevitable mutations ,hospitalisations etc

Covid hasn't gone away ,it's just being ignored by many ,until it effects or infects them  :P

I dont bother to wear a mask if the staff aren't wearing a mask.
But then i have been doubled jabbed and have a booster booked for about 2 weeks time  :y

Well.....Boiler man has been.....didnt need a filling loop....filling loop valve was underneath the the kitchen sink!!
so, buy turning that he got it working  :)
But its now running over pressure....which he said wasnt a concern...ie it wasnt going to blow up.
He reckon the expansion vessel is bunged up....hence running over pressure.
He's put me down for a new boiler....which maybe in a week or so time  :y

At least im warm again  :y

Sounds liken the same fault my Mondeo had....

Remotes wont lock/unlock the doors but using the key does.
Unlock the drivers door with the key, then i had about 10 seconds to put the ignition on/start the car before the alarm went off.

Mine was diagnosed as a faulty control module inside the dashboard.
Cost of module was estimated at £600, then there was the cost of removing the dash to get to it and then replace the dash.

I replaced the batteries in the fobs but didnt make any difference!

I lived with the problem and then sold the car to a car dealer... i didnt have a guilty conscience ....

Might not be your problem....just it sounds a lot like the fault my Mondeo had....

I can remember when my mum used to take me for a day out in London.

She used to drive, park up on the outskirts where there was a tube line handy and we'd tube it in ;)

I think those days are long gone Dave, it's all residents parking permits and Sidick's various charges these days.  ::)

You could always park here and get the train from Swindon  :y

https://www.yourparkingspace.co.uk/locations/show/3014010630

I might not even charge you  ;D

General Car Chat / Re: So what have you done to your car today?
« on: 11 November 2021, 20:54:18 »
Went to check and pump up the tyres, only to find that the display on my inflator isn't coming on. So then spend ages faffing around looking for a tyre pressure gauge.

Then moved the car back to its right place on the drive, and it starts to complain about the key battery, so end up replacing that.

Then I drive to the Amazon hub pickup point to collect a parcel, only for them not to recognise the code, grrrr.

Speaking of Amazon, I noticed from my credit card statement that they are charging me for Prime, but no Prime on my account.  Got nothing but a string of lies from the useless bastards, so had to report it to the credit card company as a fraudulent transaction, with all the hassle that involves, like the card being immediately invalidated...   ...perfect timing :(

I'm not touching anything else today.

In more positive news, renewed the car insurance.  Ironically, both cars are identical premiums.

I had the same problem, but worse! i had fraudulent use on my bank debit card about a month ago.....so reported it to the bank....what a mistake that was! i should have emptied my account first! as they immediately cancelled my card and it took 10 days before a new card and pin number turned up....meaning 10 days of not being able to access any cash (well i could via a cc but thats a bloody expensive way to get cash) or pay with my debit card  :(

Give that a go then, Dave. Poor old boiler is probably fine, just dying of thirst.

Thanks that Dave...

Stemo....i aint spending money on it as its being replaced...i'll look tomorrow to see if i can find one about......

Page 6 of the manual clicky shows the filling loop .
2 taps need opening either end of the loop

WRAS regs include the fitting of a check valve to stop boiler water going back into drinking water, this could be stuck shut also .

if you suffer low water pressure you may not get the required 1 to 1.5 bar required
(sometimes filling very late at night when local pressure is highest ,due to low demand, works)

that said ,just read your reply about it never being serviced ,  ::)
might be wise to let the charity have a look if it's no cost to you
condensing boilers do need regular service ,adjustment to work efficiently

10 years of no service will probably mean the boiler is ****ed anyway now  :(
so ignore me  ;D
so let the Gas Safe "engineers" deal with it ,especially if it's FREE  :)

Ah ha! So its needs a filling loop, no wonder i carnt get water into it  ::) ;D
No i dont have the filling loop!
Well i dont think so....havent come accross one in the flat, but i do have a seperate storage room down the corridor, which the previous owner left some crap in, i'll have a look tomorrow....

Im having my 11yo combi boiler replaced with a new combi....

So what do the experts reckon I'll save on gas with the new one?

Nowt? / 5% / 10% / more?

The room stat needs changing (I can do that myself) as the one fitted lies! (I guess thats 11yo as well)
Its set at 28C and no way is it that warm in here, ok its nice and warm, but if it really was 28C, i'd be sweating like a gud un!

What's wrong with your newish boiler Dave?  ???  :-\

It also runs at low (in the red) water pressure all the time. Ive tried opening the valves underneath the boiler to let more water in, but opening the valves does cock all!
Can you hear the water going in, Dave? If you can it means you may have a leak in your system. That boiler really isn't that old. Mine is a similar model and still runs like new after eight years.
Is there an isolator to the cold feed to the boiler?

No you carnt hear water going in....and if there is a isolator for the cold feed its well hidden!
This flat i bought is 11 years old (hence the boiler age) and all inside walls are plasterboard so pipework is hidden behind the plasterboard

Probably been plumbed in backwards. By the landlord...

Seems to be been installed by Miller Homes or a subcontractor at least going by labels stuck on boiler...

Potterton Promax is a condensing combi ,about 90% efficient IIRC
if it's serviced and adjusted correctly ,rads balanced etc you won't see much in savings on fuel bills with a newer gas boiler .

is the grant is 100%, FREE MONEY* ,no cost to you ?
or so much off an install ? in which case a local indy may be cheaper even without a grant and just your contribution ,

Thermostat is a cheap and easy fix if it bothers you reading high  :-\
put an accurate thermometer next to the stat and see what the temp really is  ;)

FREE MONEY* is not free ,someone has to pay  :-X

Somehow i doubt its ever been serviced sinced its been installed tbh.
I remember the vaillant i had in my last place used to run its burner high to get upto temp, then reduce the burner to keep water temp constant, only shutting the burner off when room stat called for off.
This potterton burner roars aways, then shuts off burner when water temp reached then repeats a few mins later.

I realise someone pays.....in this instance its a charity....which no doubt you have probably heard of and dealt with  ;)

Our boiler is at least 17 years old . It does play up from time to time but they are very simple and therefore easy to fix.

But prob costing you a lot more to run than a new one and as gas prices are rising loads  :(
