My 96 Omega
« on: 07 August 2007, 21:28:44 »

Sorry there a little late - but as promised

As the sun was shining sunday morning i thought i'd best crack on with detailing my omega as ive not done it since taking delivery a couple of weeks back.

I'd allready cleaned it the previous night so all that was required was a quick pre rinse.

I starded by giving the entire car a clay - followed by 2 goes with poorboys ssr 2.5  - Polished with SRP & a top sealent. Followed by a bit of tryre sealent & trim seal.

The car wasnt in bad nick tbh - as the garage had "valeted"  ::) it

However even from a mile away the badly machined finished was noticable - swirled to high heaven & the car looked grey!

Before shots

So on with the clay

Not as bad id have expected

On with the ssr

Not too bad after 1 pass - gave another & it was spot on!

On with the SRP & sealent - whilst i was waiting for the sealent to dry - thought i'd have a quick tidy of the engine - will do more when i have more supplies in
Before

After

And the afters of the car :)

& a quick one of the interior

Comments welcome! Cheers :)

Looking at the finish, it look very shiney, I have been thinking of using the clay for a while now but been affraid of stuffing up my spot on paint, how did you find it, using the clay bar.

I find it very easy to use. I dont waste money on quick detailer to use with it though, as all you need is a lube. I mix a few drops of fairy washing up liquid in an empty spray bottle of water & keep the area im working on wet at all times, and only do a quarter of the bonnet size area at one time to avoid drying out - then wipe dry with a clean Microfibre. It looks a bit of a mess when dry as the resudue leaves it looking smeary. But a good cleaning compound / cleaning polish like the autoglym SRP will remove it no probs - its just where the soapy clay residue has dryed.
Oh and dont rub it as such. Just let it glide across the paint, as soon as it feels smooth its done. Well worth doing imo on any car though - makes applying & removing producs a breeze :)

Thanks for the replys!

Wow! That looks the business!  8-) Fantastic reflections and SUPERB condition for an 11 year old motor! Was it all done by hand?

Seriously, you pre-facelift owners should make more of an effort with presentation  ;D Having said that, someone was kind enough to key right down the side of our black facelift the other day which sometimes makes you wonder, why bother  >:(

Exhaust looks tidy as well, are they chrome tip extensions or just a strong arm and autosol!?!

Thanks  :y
I cheated with 2 chrome tips lol
And i did the main cutting work (to remove the swirls & small scratches) with a rotary polisher - however clay, polish & sealent was all applyed by hand though . Got very sunburned & dehydrated doing it heh, took app 8 hours last sunday - but the finish is worth it i feel  :)
