Cost will depend entirely on depth, area and type (density/composition/reinforcement). That said, if you're only talking a couple of square feet, it should be pretty diyable

I loved my 24v Senator
Interiors have shrunk over time, My Carltons were a tad smaller, Omega a tad tighter.
I like a roomy car with the gadgets, sunroof and electric sunroof have to be a must on my next car, but I am not aware of anything that I would like that compare to a Senator, Maybe a BMW series 7/8 or an S class Merc. But I havnt enough spare cash to in vest in either, and would they ever be classed as a proper classic in t he future.

Trouble is, as soon as you go van base you lose a hell of a lot of the everyday use refinement

How many seats do you need ?
Six is the minimum. And that's on and approximately monthly basis. 7 is useful as it's very often 6 people plus mobility scooter, so a 2-3-1 formation works best unless the car is mahoosive enough to have the scooter behind the rear seats.
