The floor underneath is a mixture of concrete & some kind of self level stuff that looks like it's been down a very long time. I suspect that the floor is/was stone flags. There is a kind of cellar and at ground level at the bottom of the stairs is a 3" stone slab so I'm guessing the rest of the floor is the same.
The hall has original floorboards but the front room has had new boards down at some point.

my daughter said the floorers had suggested that ... I think I'd have told them to try some rather than suggest it  ;D

I'm surprised they don't carry some of that stuff I linked to with them. I certainly wouldn't have been happy with that finish, and would have expected whoever gave the quote to have explained how the job would be finished around that area.

We've been doing our best for the past 15/16 months to 'help' her move on .....  ;D ;D She only got the keys at the beginning of Jan,  but she wanted to get stuff done in it before she moved in ... like the bathroom and some decorating. We She  can see light at the end of the tunnel now ..... almost ready to move out (again!!!!  ;D)

I think I'd be saying something to who ever it was that fitted it, but my daughter seems to be happy enough with it.
They didn't even finish a threshold as the floor finishes under the stairs ...  ???

You could maybe get away with the right hand side of the fireplace, but the left side is miles out.
