I am guessing the SVR is the more recent 494 model which is a whole different car to what you have now, lighter, more nimble, etc etc.

If you do get it, and its post 17My, insist they update the TCU software as part of the sale

Had my L320 TDV8 almost 4 years now , only problem I've had was the central locking which my indi soon sorted now on 104,000 miles & no oil leaks + no top ups between annual service, test drove an SVR recently & was smitten but with insurance quotes at 4 times the amount I pay now it won't be going anytime soon, I've owned over 40 vehicles since 1971 and the RRS is the best of the bunch. Fuel consumption varies between 20-30mpg.
If you can afford the insurance on the SVR, Mick, and I'm pretty sure you can, then go for it. It's what money is for at our time of life. Do it.
.

Hi Steve, yes I could afford it but I told myself & SWMBO that £1000 was my limit & it came in at a touch over £1450 so really can't justify it ,shame because it was a lovely vehicle .

IIRC my disco had to have a module replaced because this update wouldn't take. What's so important about this update?

It fixes some remote connectivity issues and enables software over the air.

That'll scare Rangie ;D

Related, Is her car 3G or 4G?  If 3G, what happens when the networks plug the plug on 3G, with some doing so by the end of 2023?  Drop to 2G, or stop working as soon as the last network turns off 3G?

It's got nothing to do with work. It's so the car company, and anyone else interested enough, can change the software that makes everything work. Or not.

Its 3G, only the 18My on got 4G

It can operate over 2G as well as 3G so for the Uk, probably no major issues.

That said, I may have a way......let me remind myself

Thats FOTA (Feature Over The Air) not SOTA, far to much hassle to be doing stuff like that with SOTA.

SOTA means you can send out a software fix to cars and avoid the owner having to endure a visit to a hopeless dealer.

Only two SOTA'able modules on the mentioned era of RR, telematics and infotainment

Right up until my late fifties I had a list of new cars/vans/bikes that I’d love to own but couldn’t justify or afford. Now I can afford them I don’t actually really want them. I consider them toys, expensive toys, and I fear the novelty would wear off quickly. As I like estate cars for their versatility, I seriously considered buying a new Audi RS6, but soon talked myself out of it. I get in enough trouble with normal cars without having extra temptation.  ;D

Do it, if it's what you want.

You're just as likely to pick up an instant ban in any old shitbox, especially given your proximity to the car hating public mob.  So may as well do it in style and comfort.
