New car should soon be here.
« on: 19 April 2023, 12:56:04 »

It is 11 months today (19th May 2022) since I placed my order and left a deposit.

Apparently she is now fully build and is currently in transit between Mexico and Bremerhaven. They can't tell me the name of the ship but they can tell me it will dock in Southampton.

Expected delivery date is 22nd May.

No mention of any price rise. That would piss me off. ::)

Are you still looking forward to its arrival or has the long wait soured the feeling a bit.  :-\

Yes. Looking forward. But I was never one of those people who collected their new car from the dealer at Midnight on 31st July, so it would be on their drive early A.M August 1st  ready for when their neighbours pulled the curtains back.

I don't think any dealers do the midnight collect these days.

I really wanted a used car ( 1-3 years old) but the current batshit crazy prices of used cars means it was actually cheaper to wait for a new one.

My problem was that the 'nearly new' were more expensive than the 'brand spanking new' due to scarcity.

Now that more cars are reaching the dealers this madness is finally starting to abate.

The Chinky sniffle has a lot to answer for. :-X

If a price was agreed the time of the sale then it should be adhered to, unless of course the small print says different.

I found that too . The price difference between new and nearly new was negligible .
Six month waiting time for a new , albeit well spec'd Kodiaq .
Just be grateful that you don't have a 33% Vehicle Registration Tax levy on top of list price ........ >:(

Most manufacturers are prioritising the higher spec (and higher profit) models, so they tend to be delivered faster.

No, it is updated from the bell end purple test car I drove in 2022.

Some updates I like....others not so much.

For example, the gear stick is no more being replaced by a much smaller 'clitoral nub' selector.

No running in period as such, the book will say to avoid long periods of full throttle until you have a few hundred miles on the clock. If you ignore this advice, they really stink and smell like they are about to catch fire ….. hmm errr apparently.  ::)
As for the 18000 mile’s service interval, you could always set the panel to alert at an interim 9000 miles for just the oil, especially if you’re keeping it for a bit.  :y

I'm guessing the engine manufacturing process has moved on since the days of a Ford Zodiac or Vauxhall Cresta from the 1960's.

I also imagine that engine oils have moved on since the days of Castrol GTX 20/50 sludge.

Just sorted out the insurance for both myself and Mrs Opti to drive.

The usual boring stuff...protected NCD......total excess (voluntary and compulsory) £500.....windscreen cover....blah ...blah.

£382.45 with Aviva. :-\

For some reason they seem to think I'm a spotty 17 year old who wants to insure a Bugatti Veyron or Porsche 911 Turbo S. :-\

Apparently as a reward and thank you for being a new customer I also get £20 of petrol vouchers when used at Shell.

Can only use £10 a visit at a time though and must spend £25 to get my tenner off.

Still pretty good though. :)

My renewal for the Monsit was £260, up from £155 (less £30 cashback) last year.  ::)

10 minutes on the opera singers comparison site and I got £170 less £40 cashback.  :y

So a bit more than last year, but there is a cost of living crisis going on I suppose.  :-\

Yep and last years premium was stupidly cheap, especially as I had to declare 6 points on my licence which I didn't have to this year as they had expired.  :)

Did you claim for the fire /arson on the red one a while back Uncle Stemo ? or just sort it yourself  ££   :-\
that won't help the renewal price ,plus other claims in the street at the same time IIRC other cars got damaged  :(
Yep, six cars set alight that night  :(

Well the AA decided that £349 was a nice price to renew my policy this year-and that's for a 23 year old Volvo[7yrs NCD]-up from £220 last year.A quick chat with the Meercats secured it for £221.

You wouldn't if you shopped around like me and Tigger.

But you're a lazy ba..... :D ;D

My renewal for the Monsit was £260, up from £155 (less £30 cashback) last year.  ::)

10 minutes on the opera singers comparison site and I got £170 less £40 cashback.  :y

So a bit more than last year, but there is a cost of living crisis going on I suppose.  :-\

Across the board.

Yep and last years premium was stupidly cheap, especially as I had to declare 6 points on my licence which I didn't have to this year as they had expired.  :)

Kerb Crawling? ::) ::) >:D

You can get points on your licence for kerb crawling?  ???

Who knew?  :o                                                                   Ah.. Lord Opti of course!  ;D ;D ;D

It's all very well quoting a figure for what you pay, but whats included makes a huge difference.

Apparently as a reward and thank you for being a new customer I also get £20 of petrol vouchers when used at Shell.

Can only use £10 a visit at a time though and must spend £25 to get my tenner off.

Still pretty good though. :)
If you'd have waited a bit longer you could have had one of these:

I think it started to cost as much, or even more, that fully comp.

Pretty sure it's all fully comp with all bells and whistles these days.

The only real variable being the excess(s)
