Not a bad little motor.
« on: 29 May 2023, 14:34:38 »

Had to nip over to Fakenham in Norfolk this morning to see a mate who's not too well at present, SWMBO told me to take her new MX-5 as it hasn't had much use since we bought it a couple of months ago, I'm really quite impressed with it goes really well a bit too low for me really but once "shoehorned"  in it's a very pleasant vehicle to drive.

The original MX-5 was hoot to drive and dick about in, if not really that outright quick.  Cheap, tail wagging fun and slow speeds :y.  Not driven any newer models.

I've had MX5s for years. I mainly own mk1s, but I have owned mk2 and 2.5. I've driven the mk3 and mk4.

They are great fun and yes, underpowered.

Didn't seem underpowered at all 2.0 litre Homura whatever that means 😁 went like a bat out of hell when I floored it on the A17 to pass 3 wagons..

Great little drivers car so I'm told. I have never driven one. I remember the MX5 winning the 'best handling car of the year' award from Autocar magazine. I think it won the award twice.....or maybe I'm getting confused with the Honda NSX.

The early 1.6 was underpowered so had a limp-wristed hello sailor tag attached to it.

As Mick says the latest cars are 2 litre and have a decent amount of power for something that weighs barely a ton/tonne. :y

Having got in ( not easy) , I couldnt get past how close the screen pillar was. Mind you F1 drivers have the halo contraption and manage.
