Anyone on here got an Astra K auto?
« on: 08 June 2023, 12:42:39 »

We've got 2.

Intermittently both cars fail to engage park properly, so you cannot remove key from the ignition.

With the ignition switched on and moving the gear leaver backwards and forwards it eventually releases the key.

I've searched for a solution (seems like a common problem) but results don't seem to offer a satisfactory cure.

Any ideas please?

Vauxhall deny any knowledge of the fault - surprise surprise!

Wifey's Astra K is auto, on a 66 plate, 58,000 miles. No problems like that, Barry.

Hmmm, it's funny it's happening on both our cars.

Can't be a coincidence.

have the cars been left in the hot sun recently  :-\

Vauxhall ignition barrels   have a habit of sticking in when you pull the key out
the center section should spring out slightly
assuming it's a standard old style metal key  :-\

It's nothing to do with the ignition barrel Dave, it's to do with the gear change not always triggering the park sensor.

Is the gear selector not linked to the ignition barrel (so you can't remove the key unless it's on P ) like the Omega set up  :-\

It is, Dave, yes. But a fault with the ignition barrel wouldn't release the key after the gear selector had been 'wiggled'.

Perhaps not on an electrical set up but a mechanical one might...

Well, I won't be doing that again.

Took the cover off the the gear selector, can't see bugger all underneath it.

Clipped it back on, selector wouldn't come out of park!

Took the cover back off, wiggled the selector, eventually it came out of park.

Put the cover back on and it seem to select OK now.

Bloody cars!

Nothing like the Omega set up in there :'(

When you put the cover back on, and the lever stuck in park, did a little bit of poo come out?  ;D
