Osram Nightbreaker Bulbs
« on: 03 January 2010, 11:52:12 »

After many on here recommend these bulbs, I've just fitted a pair for the main beam - don't see any difference, still a crappy yellow colour!

Will see if they're better when it's dark I guess.

i noticed a large improvment using them, considerable more 'throw' forward and brighter light too. Whats the condition of the lens?

Got to say that I put nightbreakers in to my old shed of an Omega and there is a remarkable difference. They do throw out more light and they are whiter,my old bulbs were the equivalent to candles in jam jars.

Condition of the headlamp glass is perfect, standard HID's, deffo Osram Nightbreakers, same crappy yellow main beam light  BUT I haven't used the car since yesterday morning and won't use it till the weekend, so looking at the lights with the car on the driveway.

Dunno what bulbs in our Elite (been in at least 5 years), but bright and white on main beam (that too has standard HID's).

I feel another bulb raid coming on this weekend! :y

I'm of the opinion that these Night Breaker bulbs are as good as the cheapest 55W bulb you can buy at a secondhand carboot stall for a quid.

Rubbish! ::)

think with Xenons its different. Everyone who has standard projectors and used them has seen a big increase in light output

I have standard Projector Headlamps.  I'll buy a pair of these 'Nightbreakers' on the weekend and take before and after shots.

I am very interested to see if they are as good as people claim.  I was going to spend a LOT more and get PIAA bulbs, but if these are just as good, I'll be very happily surprised.

As my car is a '95 it had the 'orrible lights without the projectors. I changed these for Depo clones and these weren't much better. Then bought some genuine projectors. Not much better. Fitted genuine Osram Nightbreakers. Not much better. Went the whole hog and fitted pucker HID lamps. Guess what? Not much better! My old Monza has two lamps per headlamp, one is a dipped/main beam and the other is main beam only so you have four bulbs on with main beam. I fitted 100w bulbs (yes I know they're technically illegal...) using the standard wiring and standard fuses (everything in a Monza is over engineered) and they knock spots of the HID lamps in the Omega. One step forward, two steps back. If only I could bastardize a pair of Monza lamps onto my Omega :)

PS Oh yeah, and the adjusters don't break. Ever!

I find it hard to believe that anyone could think that halogens are better than pukka HID lamps.
Did you merely fit "HID style" bulbs, or the ballasts and burners?

Pedro, what I'm trying to say is, that in my experience, the Omega lights are not that good! I now have genuine Vauxhall HID lamps on my car with I presume (they came with the lamps) genuine D2S bulbs and although better than I had, they're still not as good as I would expect.
Do HID bulbs get tired? Perhaps that's the problem? They do start up every time though and together so I presume the bulbs are ok!
