Omega General Help / Re: autobox info needed
« on: 28 July 2011, 18:44:50 »
Which letters, AR25 is the 'lesser auto box' but fine for the model of Omega it is fitted, the AR35 is used on the 3.0 litre petrol and the 2.5 diesel, a strong box to cope with the higher 'torgue'.

Omega General Help / Re: Alarm is driving us mad !!!!!!!!!!
« on: 07 March 2011, 20:24:03 »
Sorry, but it tends to be the 'rechargable batteries' in the 'POWER SOUNDER'.
It's located driver side under flap below scuttle against bulk-head, suggest - disconnect, if it sorts the problem, replace if you like or just leave it.

I can endorse that, any work EP takes on is always done to the 'highest' quality, far better than GM most dealers.

Hello Steve, good to see you still have the Omega, is your 'son' ok.
Fill and bleed the system as best you can, then run for a few hours, top up when required.

Omega General Help / Re: Unexplained coolant loss?
« on: 22 November 2010, 20:27:17 »
Ok, maybe a little harsh, I was trying to 'paint a picture', on/off valve to keep temp in the cabin constant.
I have had 4 Omega's, 3 Carlton's before them.
HBV is always the first place to look for 'unexplained coolant loss.
Entwood, sorry I had a bad day, you explained the HBV workings correctly.

Sorry 'ENTWOOD' (pretentios prig) maybe the expression 'MIX' was not GRAMMATICAL correct, but yours said the same, the vacuum moves the valve hot or not. (on or off) the mix gives a constant cabin temp.
Anyway, the valve leaks coolant to the 'outside world' because the seals wear, why because it's made of plastic.

Very hot coolant and cooler coolant is mixed so the temperature in the car stays constant, at what ever temp you have set, just like a 'mixer tap' or 'shower temp mixer'.
The HBV is adjusted by the 'vacuum' attached at the top of the unit.

Changed my HBV three times in 3 years (80k), each time with a GM unit.
They leak because they just wear out.
The HBV is working all the time the engine is running, as the valve continually mixes the coolant to achieve the temp set on the heater control, it's the seal that leaks.

How much did they cost ?
Part worn can be a 'real' problem, and yes always, always, they should be balanced.

Omega General Help / Re: WIM OOF Discount
« on: 02 November 2010, 19:46:15 »
Used a number of company's over the years and 150,000 miles, but without exception the best was Tony at WIM.
Sold my Omega in August with 191k on the clock, front tyres had even wear after 20k and 5mm of thread left.

Omega General Help / Re: Power steering problems
« on: 23 October 2010, 21:30:03 »
First try the cheapest, replace fluid, Dexron 2 for power steering, it can make the difference. Servotronic relay is located up behind the 'glove box' - real pain. Replacement pump £100 + , it may be the way to go if the new fluid fails.
