Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Car 300 advice
« on: 31 July 2006, 21:14:41 »
Hi, got the keys pulled out the unit and on the back there appears to be about 4 spare spaces on the car 300 plug connector.

i.e. spaces were there should be connectors, but empty, could this be were the remote control would be if it were a CDR 500?

Thinking of getting one they seem to be going for about £80 on flebay is that reasonable or can I get one a bit cheaper?

Thanks again

I ment CDR 500, as I mentioned think it was swapped so hopefully the connections are there.

I'll have a look.

Should get a few bob for my car 300, if it's that rare  ;D

Thanks Again

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Car 300 advice

Hi Guy's

This is proberbly the dumbest question youve been asked, but how would I remove my radio/cas car 300 out of the dash, if I dont have the special tool, if required. :-/

Also since I have had the car (a long time) the buttons on the steering wheel have never worked, I am pretty sure the car orinonally had a car 500 which was prob' swapped when the car left the fleet owner. What would be the likely cause of this?

The garage that sold me the car reckoned the Car 300 doesnt have this facility, were they just fobbing me off?

Cheers any advice would be appriciated.

Got it sorted, rechecked the EGR valve and the VAC pipes, eventually found a missing VAC pipe tucked away by the radiator. No more warning lights, no more limp mode, and the turbo spins as it should. Not even smoking when reved any more. The advice received was helpful and spot on in the end, thanks guys.

Well Done Fella  :y

As far as Dti's are concerned, them vac pipes are little devils just waiting to get ya ;D ;D

Every time someone has done work in the engine bay of both my Dti Omega's there has been problems connected with those Vac pipes and they are everywhere :-?

Glad your sorted :y

There are at least 2 that look a little like this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EGR011-VAUXHALL-OMEGA-2-2-EGR-Valve-/120751563961?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1c1d5aa4b9

And I think there maybe one that looks like this, but I'm not sure on that, maybe someone will correct me?

I suppose there is a possibility that some of that oil you mentioned floating around, could have gunged them up.

But I'm no expert. All I know is that everytime I have had this problem, it's been a vac pipe. :-/

Did you check all the vac pipes as I suggested in your other thread Dave :y

It could be as simple as that.

The EGR valves are visible, they are plastic devices around 100mm Long and around 40 mm wide. they have one or two of the small Vac pipes going to them.

I think one is down around the area of the HBV and another on the battery side but closer to the bulkhead.

Someone may correct me on that, But check those pipes are all connected.

Thanks Boiler Man, Deffenately going to take a much closer look at the vac pipes, my brother was giving me a hand with the turbo and was disconnecting all sorts while i weren't looking, keep you posted.

Yep.
It has happened to me plenty of times, in particular after a mechanic or garage has been doing work on the engine bay. They are very easily dislodged.

The last time it happened I searched and searched. In the end I spotted that a pipe had come off completly and tucked itself around the back of the fitting, so it looked okay visually.

So give them a wiggle.

Another time a garage was telling me that I need a new turbo :o About £600  :o

I eventually found that one of the vac pipes that goes right around the back of the engine, very close to the bulk head had a rubber fitting that had split. You could only see it with a mirror.

Went to Vx Dealer, purchased a new rubber fitting 60 pence  :) :y

Instant improvement.

Hi Dave

I have had this problem in the past.

Not the Turbo fault thank goodness. But the light coming on and off with poor power.

Check all the connections on the small plastic vac pipes that run all over the place, they go to EGR valves the HBV and if one of these come off or the rubber elbow is split, it puts it in limp mode.

Strange thing is on my old 2 ltr Omega Dti it used to effect the ventilation dampers inside the car as well. Not noticed that on the 2.2. But it does seriosly effect the power.

Hope this helps. :y

Hi Guys

Thank you very much for all your advice, it is very much appreciated.

and the advice about the angle tighten 30 deg :y

Please dont feel as you wasted your time on adviseing me to go for Vx parts. But because money is tight at the moment and also feeling like the local Vx are taking the Pi##. Long story :-?

I have gone for the Mintex, I'll let you know how they go, I know only time will tell. But hopefully they will last until times are better and money isn't as tight.

Thanks Again
Gary :y

Thin foam household door draught excluder inside the plastic surrounds that the pins move through.

Our if it is thick, just on one side.

Worked on mine.

Maybe it is just me, but I dont like the idea of the doors being locked when driving.

What if your in an accident and can't be pulled out, coz your doors are locked :o

In my case.

I defo found it easier with the seat removed.

The most difficult screw to take out is the one at the back of the door near the lock area, half way up the door. I ended up nicking the rubber a bit, but hay, nothing compared to damaging the card.

The bottom ones are easy with the seat removed and it gives you more room to force/lift the card up and over the top lip.

Also because the seat is out of the way, the card can be gently sprung open quite some way, allowing more room to get at the lock mechanism.

I found getting hold of a replacement lock, before hand, helpfull to understand how the lock works before hand, about £30 at scrapper.

I did end up damaging the brown plastic rain cover that is wrapped around the lock.

Hope this helps :y

Ps - I asked the guys about removing the seat and got good advice. I posted in the wrong section, but it is here. http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1303506488
