Never owned a French car, tbh I think the only thing that would tempt me to the dark side now is an SM  8)
We've had two, a megane and a captur. TBH, never had a problem with either. I owned a Renault 20TS when I was younger, loved it.

My R25 was more reliable than my 5 series. Although that's a fairly low bar ;D

I really need to force myself to get to work on set fire to the French contraption. Now have all the parts (I hope) and a few days off work, so no excuse other than lack of interest.
Might tot up my petrol receipts for the last few weeks for motivation.  ::)
FTFY  :)

I think your plan is the more sensible one.
Made a start on it today. Need to change cam oil seal, cambelt and aux. belt.
Jack up o/s front. Remove wheel. Remove arch liner. Remove 6 nuts holding fuel filter bracket in place and cable tie fuel filter out of the way. Remove aux. belt.
Next is remove crank pulley. To do this move to the other side and remove airfilter trunking, airfilter box, battery, battery tray, bolts holding cable tray to bellhousing, then remove two bolts which hold starter motor.
I stopped there when it started raining.
Next thing will be - remove front bumper (which is actually the front of the car) to allow removal of starter motor.
Then jam something in the ring gear so the crank pulley can be undone.
I can then commence the jobs that actually need doing.
The frenchman who designed this contraption must have had a pathological hatred of mechanics  ::)

depending on age the bottom cambelt sprocket is NOT keyed, beware :y

If you mean the crank sprocket Henry, then this one is keyed. Small mercies and all that.
Managed to get the starter off and  move it out of the way enough to just about got the crank lock pin in place without taking the front of the car off. Got plenty of cuts & grazes, but better than dismantling the whole front.
Got to stop for a couple of hours now, but might get back on it later this afternoon.
12 hour dayshifts Sat / Sun. so hoping to get it running on Monday.
Trying do make the man maths work to get shot of it, but realistically would need to replace it with something similar.
An electric car would be the perfect thing for commuting, but cant find one for around a grand.  ;D

One liter of petrol poured in the right place and a match would resolve the CL-Eeyore issue   :D
leaving 849 Liters to put in the Omega's tank  :)

Contraption costs around £3 a day to work and back. Omega costs at least £8.
£8+ a day for the forseeable isnt feasible for me.
Anyway, Ive got the cam seal in and the new belt on. Might manage to get it all back together on Monday, and then see how it goes.
I have this funny feeling though, that its never going to be right again. for some reason.  :-\
We shall see.

Had three French cars 2CV slow, noisy huge fun. An early Renault 5 with the push/pull gearstick[like the 2CV]sprouting from the middle of the dash. Both front brakes seized on that and the engine blew up too! Then[like Stemo]had a Renault 20TS that was a nice car comfortable pretty economical and handled pretty well too.

R16TL, one of only 2 new cars I’ve ever bought. Lovely comfortable car, twin choke Weber. Unfortunately tin worm killed it, but it was otherwise utterly reliable, and I don’t recall changing anything other than standard items.

Driven it down to Croydon again , be glad when this property is cleared and on the market , but got to say that the drive down in the Range Rover is superb.

Bet the locals thought, there's a new dealer on the patch, you rolling up in a Range.

Certainly the right area for it ! Although I'd probably have to bling it up a bit .

Found out the Omega not too keen on ticking over-at least until it's warmed up a bit, possibly stale fuel/needs a good blast[it has been stood biggest part of a year]was going to run it round on the private land in front of the lock up only to find the n/s rear caliper had seized solid so need to see about sourcing one of those as well as the new battery it needs as I robbed that off it for the 960 when the battery on that died of old age.
