General Discussion Area / Dotards !
« on: 23 September 2017, 20:18:26 »

So, Kim Jong un has resurrected a 14th Century word "Dotard" to describe Trump. Ha Ha says the world, problem is, it's a pretty accurate, or at least amusing usage, depending of course upon ones point of view.  "an old person, especially one who has become weak or senile" - Oxford English Dictionary.

I anticipate increased usage of the word, particularly on this forum    ;D

I was in Tesco this afternoon, and there I saw . . . . .

An aisle of Christmas stuff   :o   puddings, chocolate Santas, mince pies. No, not old stock being sold off. It's September FFS.

I took a picture, but not sorted an alternative to PB yet. Too lazy    ;D

General Discussion Area / You couldn't make this up . . .
« on: 26 July 2017, 22:45:24 »

Here we are in 2017.

The politicians and others nit-pick over politically correct details, and whine about being "offended" etc, and Tweet trivial crap

And yet along with kids being sentenced to death in Saudi, and who know what else we have this . .

General Discussion Area / BBC Pay
« on: 19 July 2017, 11:26:09 »

So, Chris Evans is paid around £2.2m, Claudia Winkleman around £500k, Graham Norton £850k etc etc, plus other non BBC income.

The Mantra says " Market Forces", other TV channels will pay more etc. But I just question if it matters. The above people are just presenters, they do not create anything. I'm sure there are talented and less irritating people than Evans who would jump at the chance for a fraction of the cost, same applies to others. I just don't understand why a publicly funded organisation thinks it has to compete like this.

I'm a big supporter of the BBC and I'm happy to pay my TV license, but for quality programmes not for the above.

General Discussion Area / OOF Login Wierdness
« on: 11 July 2017, 18:32:55 »

Suddenly out of the blue I can't login using my normal login thingys at the top of the page. It tells me something like there is an error, my post timed out and to try again.

But, if I use the dedicated login page it all works fine.

I haven't changed anything, and I wasn't posting anything. So, I recon STEMO is trying to get shot of me 'cos I won't share my sheep  ::)  Or, maybe it's a conspiracy by the anti-bike brigade   ;D

Anyway, just for info to TB or whoever . . . .

General Discussion Area / Cycling in Britain
« on: 07 July 2017, 12:04:24 »
We do AirBnB, which is an online B&B booking service. I need to say that I am not a cyclist.

We have just had a young French lady staying with us, cycling from Southern France to Edinburgh around the coast of Ireland. This is part of what is known as Eurovelo 1 route. She's not doing the whole route but nevertheless it's quite an impressive undertaking

http://www.eurovelo.com/en/eurovelos/eurovelo-1

Normally in France and Europe she feels completely safe. On arrival in Plymouth, she was warned about the dangers of cycling in the UK.

Yesterday just outside Swansea a hatchback of young men overtook her, then fell back so she passed, and repeated this a number of times almost hitting her. Her comment was that she has never ever felt at risk or afraid while cycling, until yesterday. In the UK.

Bring on the mass cull

Greg Allmann.

Of the Allman Brothers. General nice guy, talented and influential musician, and one time husband of Cher. Fat lot of good it did him, still dead at 69.

Yes, I know a lot of you won't have heard of him, but I haven't heard of of other people who die.

What . . an angry world we live in . . . . well in London anyway. So glad I moved a long way from it.

I completely see how this happened given the mentaility of many London drivers. I've been the subject of road rage myself.
