Hi all, my air blowers run at highest speed setting no matter what i do even with the key out of the ignition, i have to disconet the battery to shut it off. Any ideas folks it has just started doing this today. :-/

Short / constant live feed!
Should not work with the ignition off...

Is/Has your scuttle drain been blocked...

yeah i`ve been looking for the short all day with no luck.

To the right of the passenger wiper mounting as you stand looking at the engine bay from the front.
Lift the rubber seal strip from the pass side, look for a small letterbox flap and lift. The drain is beneath, probably now full of water which now overfows into the passenger compartment via the heater blower, potentially shorting the gubbins to the effect you now have...... :-[
Rerach down, remove the leaves and crap within and with carefull use of a hose, flush the drain clear.
Do not wear white trainers as they may change colour when the water floods out behind the passenger wheel, just where your trainers are.....

You will need to remove the pollen filter to get best access. Budget to replace this as theres a good chance its wet already and that makes the car interior stink a bit if you leave it....
Cant remember the price of a new one offhand, roughly a tenner??
On the downside, the blower regulator may be rubber ducked but, on the other hand, may just start working again when its dried out fully...

Hopefully :y Otherwise your into a 3 hour job to get the blower fan out.....like i had to last week for a motor gone stiff :(

It will be your fan speed regulator, this is situated behind the passenger glove box on the right hand side, when you get a new one it will be the electronic version and not the mechanical one that shorts out, awkward to do if you have big hands.

I agree, I had exactly the same symptoms & had to change mine, awkward to get to but not too bad a job....

No need to disconnect the battery just unplug the fuse IIRC it's the big green one at the top of the fusebox (30A) :-/

With respect to the blower speed regulator.
To find, with the glovebox removed if you look at the rear of the fan housing then look up and towards the centre of the car, you will see 1 brown and 1 red lead, these are the feed to the fan motor and a block with 5 wires which appears to go into the ducting.
remove the brown and red wires and disconnect the plug this will leave the reg which is held in by two plastic clips/tangs ease these apart pull the reg out.
The clips break easy and the reg can get stuck, I removed the blower housing and pressed the reg from the inside of the ducting. (recommended if its stuck as theres only 4 torx screws)
You can pick one up from a scrappy, I got one last week for £15.
Get one of as new a car as possible, will fit off a facelift. They are slightly modified, old type has vanes newer type has lots of posts, this will increase surface area and aid cooling and therefore reliability.
Only difference being if you have ECC then you need to get one of a car with ECC, same goes for if its just plain AC, must come off a car with AC.
Vx have a tech cure for fan speed running its on the Vx TIS, I'm at work at the moment, TIS at home will have a look tonight and post the info on this thread if you still need it.

;) Cheers that would be really helpfull, tryed all over to get one from a scrappy no luck, so in the meantime have wired a switch in so at least i can turn it on and off without pulling fuses or disconecting the battery. my regulator is the one with finns, rang Mr vauxhall and was quoted a staggering £135.00 for one, they must have a right laugh making these prices up. by the way mine`s got ECC.

Vaux reckon the Blowewr control device causes this defect.
