Car insurance for 99 mfl
« on: 25 January 2017, 12:42:05 »

Hello people hope we're all well!
My 99 mfl obviously doesn't qualify for classic car insurance as it's not 20 years old yet, anyone here know of a company/broker that'll insure my car as a second car without having mi pants down!? 7000 miles would have to be the minimum as I use it often.
Thanks in advance   :y

Its a case of shopping around. Whats cheap for me (OK area, middle aged, 20k miles pa, business use, declared modifications, me and Mrs TB, £170) probably won't be cheap for you.

Assuming you're not 18yrs old, most multicar companies will match your first car's NCD if some hard negotiation IME.

Thanks TheBoy, even at 43 I'm getting quotes of around £1000 because all my ncd is private hire as that's what I do for a living, I haven't had normal car insurance for years. All my Carlton's were on classic car insurance which doesn't require ndc. No points no accidents and still they're still trying to have mi pants down.

I'd shop around, if I were you. A friend of mine has a 2001 X reg 3.0 Elite which he has had  insured on a classic car policy for several years now. I don't know which company, but I could find out if need be.....

John, the company is Equity Red Star through Richard Hoskins https://www.rhspecialistinsurance.co.uk/
They accepted the Omega at eleven years old, limited to 6000 miles p.a. Its on a block comprehensive policy along with a Triumph 2500 and a Triumph 2000 for about £330 for the three, just policyholder only to drive though.

Some companies may give you some NCD if you can prove you've been driving without fault under other unrelated policies. So phone round a few

If you do get an insurance company that will insure an Omega on a 'classic car' policy, the price isn't determined relative to any NCB previously earned as they don't operate with no claims discount.
Just be mindful that if you do go down the classic car policy route, if you don't use any NCB earned, after two years you will loose it and be back to square one, unless an company will later give you a certain percentage for a previous accident /fault free driving period.
If you can, I would transfer any NCB to another car you own before the two years are up to maintain it, but you obviously need to have another car to do it!
