General Discussion Area / sofa
« on: 07 November 2011, 12:45:47 »
I'm converting the leather interior of an old elite into a sofa and 2 armchairs.

It's going well but I have no idea what to put around the back of the 3 seater (or how to do it) to cover up all the timber...

Anyone else ever done this before?

Pics will go up later.

Hi.

I am currently moving the full bose system from a breakers Omega Elite to my own Omega.

I have successfully fitted the amp in the boot, the parcel shelf 6x9's and plumbed the wiring correctly to the connection point behind the trim next to the accelerator. I have also fitted the other 4 door speakers.

Now. I do not want to take the whole dash to pieces on both cars to remove and refit the wiring loom from the breakers omega and fit to mine. Unfortunately the plugs on the back of the radio's are different as my omega had the CCRT700 with built in phone.

So my question is that can someone help me decipher the attached wiring diagrams to decide which wire goes where if I cut all the wires and re-solder the whole lot?

Any help would be amazing as I currently have no sound system at all :( lol

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / blue dashboard bulbs?
« on: 30 April 2008, 13:29:07 »
Hey guys,

I noticed this morning that the light bulb that goes behind the water temperature meter and the rev counter has blown.

If im going to go to all the bother taking the dash to bits (I've read the dashboard howto and it looks too easy to be true lol) I might as well do what I've been wanting to for a while and replace all the bulbs with nice pretty blue ones.

Has anyone else done this already? If so can you please recommend where I can get the bulbs and what type of bulb they are?

cheers!

Ben

Omega General Help / new custom stainless exhaust
« on: 24 April 2009, 17:13:32 »
Hi Guys,

My 'uncle' is a stainless steel artist. http://artwelddesigns.com He has kindly offered to make me an exhaust in exchange for maintaining his website.

now I know the manifolds on an x30xe are stainless, and the cats are in the downpipes so what I'm planning is to rebuild it from the downpipes back entirely in stainless.

I have some piccies that I made up wondering which exhaust design would be best for my engine. Black means stainless, grey means.... not stainless!

http://s515.photobucket.com/albums/t355/bappythegreat/exhaust%20system

I know very little about exhausts other than the current one is awful (some crap built by sabrepower - before I bought the car I must add)

I plan on removing the middle mufflers completely, and having my 'uncle' either make me a backbox by hand or by a cheap one/two (like you'd see on a saxo) from motorworld or halfrauds.

I personally think ideas 2 or 8 are best. but then I'm a retard and don't know what I'm doing.

Could someone who understands a little more about engines and exhausts tell me which option is best and why. Alternatively tell me to stop playing with my car and design it for me :D

once a design has been settled on I would also benefit from some information on pipe diameter/backbox diameter/outlet port diameter.

cheers! :y

Omega General Help / diesel economy??
« on: 04 May 2009, 13:44:16 »
ok so my monthly fuel bill has now hit the £300/mo mark.

i do getting on for 12,000 motorway miles a year just commuting, and have just found a girlfriend who lives 20 miles in the other direction.

3.0 MV6 is not the best option for me anymore :(

heres my idea...

get a smilar age 2.5td of any old trim level and transfer all the good bits from the MV6 into the tractor. the leather interior, the suspension, the ccrt700 stereo, the alloys the climate control etc etc.

I could then either break the rest of the MV6 or turn it into a track car...

looking on parker's guide tho te 2.5td only does 10 to the gallon more than the 3.0.. I currently get 26 to the gallon occasionally driving like a looney with the climate control on. If i drive moderately sensibly in a chipped tractor without the climate control on what sort of economy can I expect to get? SWMBO's octavia diesel does easily 50 to the gallon so i'd consider getting one of those if it wasnt a damned front wheel drive piece of %*&^....

Omega General Help / strut braces?
« on: 03 October 2008, 12:45:35 »
Am I right in thinking a strut brace is a metal bar that goes under the bonnet and connects the tops of the 2 front shocks?

if not what are those things called? lol I'd like one for my MV6 Saloon.

Omega General Help / urgent! wishbone half off and need the car 2moz!
« on: 14 September 2008, 12:24:53 »
Hi Guys,

I'm having a fight with my miggy...

I'm trying to replace drivers side wishbone, I've got the 2 big-ass 21mm bolt out of the top of the wishbone but cannot, to save my life, undo the 18mm one around the ball joint.

I've sheared a halfrauds pro 12" 3/8 driver, snapped the inside of a 72 tooth 3/8 ratchet and finally exploded my 3/8 socket.

btw the bolt has been soaking in wd40 for days

I borrowed a bunch of 1/2" drive sets and found a 1/2" 18mm socket. made an extension bar up 4 foot long to get enough leverage and actually turned the socket around the head of the bolt!

I've hit it with a hammer and drift very hard several times, the only thing I haven't tried is a blowtorch which I don't want to do around the brake lines...

I cannot get this bolt undone. Ideas? It's not left hand thread is it???

Omega General Help / tick tick tick tick tick....
« on: 07 May 2008, 13:17:09 »
hey boys and girls

My rocker cover (offside only) has been oozing oil for a long time now. Took it to a mechanic who couldn't be arsed to actually change the gasket as he took one look at the inlet manifold and thought 'nah...' instead he just took a spanner and tightened all the bolts on the rocket cover. (one of them was fingertight)

Anyway oil still oozes and 200/300 miles later I have developped a tappet rattle on that bank. sounds like it might not be on all 3 cylinders as its a fairly slow tap. that may just be because it's a slow idle though.

I have just changed the oil (30 miles ago) as it was due (had done about 4 or 5k on it) but not the filter as I'm a lazy arse. The tappet rattle is still there. On a previous car with an auto-lashing hydraulic tappet system, an oil change fixed all tappet noise in 2 miles.

Is there something more sinister going on here? I know I need to replace that rocket cover gasket (why oh why are they out of stock and why do I have to buy both banks at once???) but surely a leaky gasket wont set my tappets off will it? It's been leaking for ages.

Is it at all possible that the rattling tappet was caused by tightenning the rocket cover bolts? he was only using a small hand spanner so he can't have exherted that much pressure on it could he???

cheers guys

Omega General Help / rear offside electric window
« on: 02 May 2008, 14:04:55 »
Well I was driving down the french motorways at ridiculous speeds with 3 mates in the car for xmas holidays.

my mate sat behind me was eating pistacios and kept openning and closing the window to chuck the shells out. I got annoyed and hit the child window lock :D

since then with the child lock on or off you can only control the rear offside window from the button on the front.

what do i do? and what replacement part does my mate have to buy for me?  ;D

Omega General Help / coolant :(
« on: 02 May 2008, 14:00:13 »
I have coolant issues :(

There was steam coming out from under the driver's side edge of the bonnet (initially thought it was oil smoke) so I bought a replacement HBV off ebay which my mechanic and I fitted according to one of the instructions on this site. (the mechanic managed to dent my wing and shatter the scutter whilst removing wipers >:( )

The old one was deffo leaking coz there was whitey pinky crud all over the hoses surrounding the valve.

There is steam still coming out from under the bonnet and my coolant is still leaking yet as far as I can tell the new HBV looks fine. There is a very slight possibiltiy that I might have punctured the hose on the passenger's side of the HBV whilst playing with the clips as I accidentally squeezed it (rather firmly) with the pliers I was using on the clips.

How should I proceed? Is it worth dumping the can of 'coolant system stop leak' aka dog turds into the system to possibly seal the possible hole in the hose or is that a bad idea?

Is there anything I ought to check before buying a new passenger side hose? (if not does anyone have the part no?)

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Once upon a time a young boy of 19 decided that an insurance premium of £1500 TPFT was a bargain when it meant he could drive a 3 litre rear drive car and promptly went off to buy the first MV6 that had all the trimmings that he could find....

Some time later, a 20 year old man wished he had looked the car over in more detail first.

Soon after buying the car I noticed that the steering would pull to the left quite a lot. At my MOT I was advise that there was excessive play in my steering and my near side track rod end got replaced for me. A few thousand miles later I noticed that both my front tyres were completely bald.

I had them replaced in a hurry and got the company to do my tracking too.

4000 miles later the 2 new front tyres were both equally nackered. but on the outside edge only. which was really really irritating becuase there was 7mm of good tread on one side of the tyres and 1mm of treat on the outside grrr.

I have now had new tyres fitted to the front AGAIN and have been to several garages for advise. My tyre shop say do the camber, the garage who do camber say I need a steering idler kit, my vauxhall parts specialists say they dont know what an idler kit is but they sell 30 to 40 omega steering arms a month so maybe I should replace that.

That is my story so far. Anyone care to help me write the conclusion?

Cheers!!

Newbie Welcome Area / Hellooo :) new guy to the forum
« on: 29 April 2008, 17:19:41 »
Hi All,

I bought an omega MV6 3.0 Just over a year ago and it's the best car I've ever driven :) (ok so it was my second car, the first one was a 1.6 hyundai lol)

anyway, I have already made use of the various howtos and stuff on the site - very helpful  :y - and hope to have a long stay here (the only reason I would leave would be if my car was written off lol)

I'm sure you'll see many posts from me crying for help fixing my rust, coolant leaks, oil leaks and all the other things that you find when you want an omega so desperately that you buy the first one you see on autotrader :D

Hi Guys,

I have an omega for sale - it has been the best car in the world EVER for the last 3 and a half years - I swapped it with my brother's alfa 156 2.5v6 about a year ago now and have recently aquired it back off him.

OMEGA 3.0V6 MV6 MANUAL 125K Miles

It's not in the best cosmetic condition in the world on the outdside - rusty arches got cheaply resprayed last year and the rust has started coming through again.

interior is perfect black leather - not a scuff or mark in sight. Climate control in perfect working order - CCRT800 stereo still works perfectly with an asda mobile sim card in it. (6 disk changer works fine too)

Has tax til end 'oct, not sure on  mot - think sept

basically the car is perfect in every single way apart from the list of below bad points;

  • paintwork is not great
  • small coolant leak - think water pump but cambelt is due in next 5k anyway
  • cambelt is due in next 5k
  • no alloys - just 4x15" steels with gd tyres
  • has an almost new exhaust but due to a dodgy bracket on passenger side downpipe it's blowing

Particular items of interest:
  • The coilpack has been moved from it's usual place below the HBV to a nice safe (dry!) location next to filler neck as had to replace this when the HBV cracked.
  • pipercross performance panel filter
  • full camber setup done by wheels inmotion
  • I also have an old irmscher elite auto 3.0 that's going to the banger racers very very soon - if you want any bits off it to sweeten the deal speak now!

viewings welcome by appointment

drop me a PM for contact dtls.

I'm looking for some cash - around the 550 mark.

oh and according to the dvla's registration site, the reg V*** NEO is worth nearly 800 quid! I guess that has something to do with that film with that bloke who can fly.... :)

thanks!
Ben
