oil in bagpipes

Hi guys, changed my thermostat over the weekend, temperature is fine now. But as I was doing the work I noticed that I have oil in my bagpipes and in the plenum. Just this last few weeks I've noticed that the car has been a bit smokey but I thought it was just because its Been cold outside and it was just condensation. Now I'm not so sure. Is there any where on the air intake that oil can be getting in? Its a 2.6v6. Thanks in advance

How much oil ?
If its just a trace all over then its probably coming from the breathers  :y
As long as the breathers are clear, don't worry about it  :)

Its not excessive, its a covering, same with the internal walls of the plenum. I'll check the breathers though and let you know how I get on. Thanks for your quick reply tigers gonads. Great name by the way.lol

As TG says. There will be evidence of oil from breathers system which takes crank case pressure away so the associated oil vapour and blow by gases are burned through the cats and not ejected to atmosphere, to meet emmisions.

However if excessive, like a puddle of oil sitting in the bottom of the bag pipes, there COULD be something amiss. Even then though, I'd just clear and wipe it out and keep an eye on it after a couple of thousand miles. With the age of these cars now there could be a life time of oil vapour sitting in there.

So as said, no great worry. In fact it's more important that the breathers are clear, and SOME oil is indeed evident, as excessive crank case pressure will blow seals if the breathers are blocked. Cam covers and crank seals etc...

Well I've to take the missus shopping, but I'm going to check the breathers when I get back. I feel a lot more relieved about it now though. Thanks lads. I'm guessing there's a how to on here somewhere.lol. I certainly needed it for the thermostat. The B bolt lived up to its name too.
