Always had a soft spot for the Ford Granada - used to drive them in the 80's...the 3.0ltr then the 2.8. The Ghia with the X pack was a car I dreamt of owning back then.
Unfortunately though, as with many Fords of that era, genuine spare parts are very difficult to source, and command extortionatey high prices. I have a friend with one, and whilst he loves and enjoys the car, he often comments about the difficulties with genuine Ford parts.

You're probably right. Most of the time Regan and Carter were about 4 times over the legal limit for driving.... >:D :D

Yep, Bill was his regular driver.  :y  Oh, and it was originally a Consul (same as MK1 3.0 Granada), until the MK11 came along.  :)

Yes, I believe so.  :y  The 3000GT Consul was eventually replaced by a Granada 3.0S before the later MK2. I really do need to get out more.  ::)  ;D

In their day, the size of the Ford Granada MK1/MK2 was mahoosive compared to other vehicles of that era. It was a big comfortable car with a really big boot. My brother in law had a few Granada Ghia X Pack’s and loved them.  :y  Obviously they now seem low and smaller than modern big fat cars but they were big in their day.

Rangie,  if when purchased and at a later date you find the auto gearbox randomly changing gear or holding a gear, check the viscous coupling on the radiator cooling fan. The gearbox senses engine load so changes gear accordingly, but it has been known for the coupling to seize, causing engine load and erratic gear changes. Very simple to check, simply lift the bonnet, spin the fan and the fan should free-wheel easily by hand. If it doesn’t spin freely the coupling is seized. Not a big drama but it did catch my brother in law out the first time it happened on one of his.
Good luck with the purchase.  :y

The Granada is being collected today & going straight to a bodyshop where my mates MGB V8 is almost completely restored, I have decided to go for a complete restoration as well he wanted the best MGB V8 in the UK so I want the best Granada Ghia it will take a while but it will be a stunner eventually..👍

Sounds like a plan, Mick. Can't wait to see the results when it's done. Are you going to drive it or keep it as a show car?

.

It will be driven on dry days only obviously, but I will definitely join an owners club so I can show it , I read quite a few articles about them and realised the only way to go with this was a total strip down the guy who looks after our Subaru is a Ford trained engineer so he will deal with all the mechanicals .
