General Discussion Area / Another mates Mum dies.
« on: 20 December 2011, 23:46:54 »
What is it lately? Last year my boss lost his Mum. Early this year two mates lost thiers & another mate lost his sister. One of said mates who lost his Mum also just lost his Grandma leaving his Dad double grieving. As you all know my Mum just left us & now another mate's Mum just passed away tonight in hospital through a minor illness she was expected to fully recover from.

I don't know what else to say.

General Discussion Area / She would've been 72 today.
« on: 19 December 2011, 20:30:54 »

The first pic was taken 15 or 20 years ago. The next two were taken at a party at home in January of this year. Nobody imagined she only had 6 months left. She was an ex hippie beatnik type who used to go into the garden with the dogs in the morning & dance & sing with her arms in the air because it was a nice day!!! She'd do that all around the house too or anywhere really. Once she was shopping with a friend in Godalming who wanted to buy her husband a new dressing gown but was'nt sure of the size. Mum spotted a bloke the same size & had him modelling dessing gowns, a real character! Dad's bearing up but older than Mum & already frail. You can see how much they love eachother. I could go on but it would be overkill. My positive side tells me i'm lucky to have such a wonderful loving unique girl as my Mum for 48 years. I'm dealing with the negative side.
My best memory of her is the minute she saw you she put her arms out for a hug no matter how far away you were. Her name is Yvonne & she's known as Evie.

This was her favourite song:-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxDh2sYQRpo Dad used to get a pre booked restaurant to play this at a certain time & she'd get up & dance about regardless. What a special girl. Think i've said quite enough, can't manage any more just now anyway, Guy.

General Discussion Area / I'm learning you never stop grieving....
« on: 18 December 2011, 20:21:41 »
Because you never will, you just learn to live with it. I'm getting quite good at multi tasking since Mum left us in July. I can cry & drive the truck, wash the dishes, change the bedding & countless other daily activities. I've just had a moment while making sarnies for work tomorrow, the radio played Cat Stevens, Morning has boken....reminded me of her being bedbound, unable to see & in pain but she just wanted to go outside, sit on the veranda & listen to the trees.

She did'nt ask for much but i could'nt even do that for her.  I'm learning & adjusting. You just have too.

Omega General Help / Display on?
« on: 18 December 2011, 19:21:57 »
I've got Traceys Mini facelift MV6 estate here to take for test this week. She popped over to bet the buggy out & noticed the dash display is on. Tried starting the car & switching off again but it still glows away festively! It's the display that only uses half the screen & smaller characters...you know what i mean.

  Any ideas please? Guy. :y

General Discussion Area / Inventive but successful dinner.
« on: 15 December 2011, 20:06:58 »
I had a rummage & fried off some spring onions, a pepper that could'nt decide what colour it was, a few mushrooms & a few finger chillies sliced lengthways, added a tin of kidney beans, a squirt of tomato puree & a gentle sprinkle of a few spices then added a bag of microwave basmati rice.

A total result:- fusion veggie rice. Healthy, cheap & yummy!!!!

General Discussion Area / A friends heart problems.
« on: 11 December 2011, 23:15:35 »
A really good mate of mine Shane Gill...known as Gilly with a hard G had a minor heart attack a few weeks ago. Went in, got sorted & came home. 3 weeks later was back in with fluid around the heart causing pressure, again went in & got sorted. Phoned me earlier regarding the sale of my Cortina as he'd had some offers from sites he'd posted it on & after the car chat he decides to tell me he's been hurting all day & if it still hurts in the morning he'd contact the hospital. I told him not to wait & i'd phone him back in 15 mins. He called straight back, on his way in & will call me tomorrow.

Hercules has met him @ our Stockyard meets that he runs as 3 graces Yorkshire...Consul Zephyr Zodiac. He's a diamond geezer who lives for classic cars & gives all his time scourcing parts, helping fit them, selling, buying etc. He's only in his early 30's.

I'm sat here with a roll up, black coffee & a belly full of lasagne & his lovely Mrs Jackie in bits on the phone.

  It's just not right.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/democraticrepublicofcongo/8948892/143-arrests-in-London-over-Congo-protests.html

Surely enough is enough. How many of these mouth breathers are serial activists that pop up everywhere just to cause bother & be militant? I know we live in a democracy where freedom of speech & right to protest exist & in theory that's no bad thing but if they can't remain peaceful that right should be withdrawn. I could'nt care less if it's the odd few bad apples causing such degeneration, all the time this happens it stretches our already strapped resourses, wastes police & judicial time & off they go & do it again. break'em. Protesting should be outlawed forthwith. Any groups gathering should be told to move on once. If not water cannons, tazers, batons or a good old fashioned kicking & ALL benefits withdrawn. These lowlife wasters are barely one step up from sex cases in my book, i'm flipping sick to the back teeth of them & sick of picking the bill up yet again. How many of them really care about the congo? They're just troublemakers so lets take the gloves off & give them what they're looking for.

   I'm officially protesting against protesters. >:( >:( >:(

General Discussion Area / Flipping work!
« on: 06 December 2011, 23:10:56 »
Waited nearly two hours to get my container lifted on @ exxtor terminal, Immingham dock this morning resulting in me being late @ Milton Keynes. Once there yours truly & another of our drivers (Pete)...no not that one!!! were re routed to a warehouse in Buckingham where we found one bloke on his own & no loading dock or ramp. These containers have double stacked pallets of Bob Dent BBQ charcoal....yes he's got his own brand now! & they are crammed in up down & left to right. I can't pump truck that much with a half fixed hernia & drivers are'nt allowed on containers. Nobody should pump truck over 500 kilos on a container/trailer & double stacked pallets should NEVER be pump trucked. The upshot was Pete & the lad got on the container with the pump truck & i drove the forklift....licence long expired. Some of the pallets were that stuck two of them could'nt pull them out so we used the old strap & tug with forklift jobbie resulting in some projectile wooden blocks when the pallets broke!!!   Our beloved H&S would've had a field day!!!! That said we emptied both 40ft boxes so got the job done. Hi tailed it back empty through MK, Kettering, Corby, Stamford, Newark, Lincoln, Scunny...Immingham to get the empties lifted off @ exxtor......to be told.......

"The lads are on a break for half an hour." Terminal was empty. It was 8pm by then & they're eating chips....terminal shuts @ 10!!!  Just made it back to our yard after 14 hrs & 40 mins...(we can only do 15hrs)!
