TD Low Idle = 'Box judder when setting off!! AHH!
« on: 10 October 2014, 09:13:37 »

Ok, so a fairly substantial amount of judder when I set off in the Turbo Weasel. I was worries it was Torque converter on its way or something similar, however, a few (about 50) revs cures it. Also if I set of very gingerly, this lessens it to almost imperceptible level. I first noticed it setting off from traffic lights on a gradient the other day, and it's got a little worse since then, occurring on flat ground. It's always had a slow idle, but this is now causing a bit of an issue.

Basically want to know how do I speed up the idle on these new-fangled (14 year old  :D) drive-by-wire ECU compooter cars??  :D

Thanks in advance  :)

Yup, about 550, will give an accurate (well, via the rev counter, anyway) answer later. But a few mm of pedal travel, just adding another let's say twenty rpm makes it run sweet as anything. It's always been a low idle. Also, new discovery, when I filled up yesterday, it was (almost completely) cured. Given that the lift pump is on its way out, it would appear to be related, almost as if there isn't enough diesel getting through just on the pump/natural 'suction' of the engine on idle, but as soon as you add revs this 'pulls through' enough fuel, if we follow?

For future reference for anyone else finding this thread. Now I have about 20 litres or so in the tank, this issue is now gone, so it must be related to the lift pump issue... strange!
