Both engine are trouble free is you change the oil (listen for chain rattle at start up).

I have replaced the odd water pump but they just keep going.

1.0 is obviously down on power but pretty good around town and mega economical.

The lads got a 54 plate 1.3 cdti

Pretty good on fuel if driven properly
Injectors rattle there tits off when cold but a little 2 stroke every now and then in the diesel makes a difference (thanks Mark  :-*)
Much better when warmed up  :y
As said, parts cheap as chips because they are thousands about.
Oil change twice a year regardless of millage  :y
The cdti is surprisingly nippy around town and on a A road run when the blower is blowing  :y :y

SWMBO had a 1.4  found it underpowered  . . .  but have driven  the 1.2 version a few times  & that seems really lively . . . would def recommend the 1.2 over the 1.4 :y

Son-in-law had a 52 plate Corsa 1.2 SXi until he sold it last year. He is not mechanically minded so he never touched it, just drove it until something needed fixing. I replaced some bits on it, general servicing, water pump and belt, couple of track rod ends, handbrake cable rear sections and the usual tyres, exhaust and battery. It served him well and never let him down. He sold it to his mate and it's still running fine now.  :y

Joking aside, not a bad car to abuse, but unrefined, noisy (more annoying than loud), and slow.

I see the 1.2 is a timing chain job...is it a easy job ?  Do you need the locking kit ?

1.0, 1.2 and later 1.4s are all chain, no need to do anything to them if they are serviced well.

Not that hard to do but best to remove the sump or they tend to leak at the bottom of the chain cover.
