MOT and EML

Will my car fail its MOT if the EML is on?

As some of you know I have done the head gaskets myself and now have a host of fault codes some of which may just need clearing. However, I am in a bit of a catch 22 situation. Car needs MOT before I can go anywhere in it but does it need fault codes clearing before MOT?? :-/

I don't believe so Scotty, the MOT should be purely on the real emmissions at the time of test, EML is merely a warning telltale. BTW, you would be well advised to give the car a bloody good run immediately prior to the Test to get rid of any crap lying in the exhaust & to heat the Cats sufficiently to give the best emmission readings. As long as you are driving in the general area of the test station & you have proof of your prebooked test, then should you be stopped by the Law, you are in the clear. Just tell them you are on your way there ;D :y

Depends what's triggering the EML. If it's an emmisions related fault, then your emmisions could fail your car.  :y
Does your MOT station do repairs? Best finding one that doesn't, Garic is maybe a bit far for you.  :-/

Yes but the tester is a good friend of mine :y

Fully intend to as I want to make sure that the car runs ok and the smoking has definitely stopped. Also want to clear the rust off the brakes and make sure they are working properly :y

Yes it just stopped on its own so i assume it must have been condensation??? It just seemed a lot of smoke for condensation. Will just have to see how it performs on the run to the testing station :y

Scottie, check to see if your secondary air injection relay is present in the engine ecu box.

And make sure the solenoid on the right side of the rad is ok and connected up.

I remember messing with the relays when i was first trying to sort out the SAI fault so I will double check that. The solenoid is a replacement that I got from Markey Mark a while back and I am sure that is connected up properly. :y
