Omega Electrical and Audio Help / CDR 2005 vs CCR2006 aux input
« on: 23 June 2008, 12:04:27 »
I have a decent 'how to' regarding the connection of a 3.5mm Jack socket to a CDR 2005 and am trying in earnest to find out (without taking my CCR 2006 out) if the circuit board layout is the same for the CCR 2006 internal board. Are they both Phillips? Any help much appreciated.

Cheers :y

Omega General Help / Squeeking Aircon Pump!!!
« on: 01 November 2008, 09:50:44 »
Hi chaps

Sounds like I have a squeeking noise coming from around about the area of the aircon pump. Is it anything to be worried about if the bearings are on their way out??

Omega General Help / Clutch or Gearbox problem
« on: 21 October 2008, 20:21:21 »
How do lads and lasses, posted this attached to another topic but think it's getting lost so have put in here.

I'm having a problem time with mine. Mine changes gear with the engine off and the clutch down to all gears, but the moment I start driving and get around 30mph plus it becomes a battle to get the car in gear!! Changing down is normal operation!!!?!?  :-?  So the question is - Am I looking at a clutch problem or could this be gearbox related?

As suggested to other people I have bled the clutch and changed the transmission oil to no improvement.  Getting quoted £280 for a clutch flywheel change out which doesn't seem too extravagent - but would this fix the issue??.

Any ideas chaps. Gearboxes and clutches are past my ability sadly   :'(

Omega General Help / Rear Blind recoil problem?
« on: 01 March 2008, 16:30:17 »
Hi gents and lasses.

Not posted for a while and am in need of a bit of advice. I've finally got around to adapting my rear shelf and fitting my rear blind into 2001 CDX and have encountered a problem. When the blind raises up it works fine but the tension in the material of the screen is not there. So resulting in when I go to retract the blind into the rear tray - the arms go down but the screen doesn't recoil back into the holder as it should - it stays out and lies on the shelf in a pile!! :o. Is there a particular way of setting the tension up of the screen prior to attaching it to the interior coloured bar? There is an allen socket on one side - but this only seems to go about 3/4's of a turn. Any help much appreciated chaps.

Omega General Help / Quick One For You - Rear Blind (Facelift)
« on: 21 August 2007, 01:33:59 »
Will a pre-facelift blind be a straight swap into a 2001 CDX facelift that hasn't had the blind pre-installed like mine?

Or am I giving myself a huge headache trying to install one if I purchase one?

Omega General Help / Burning Rubber Smell?
« on: 11 August 2007, 20:01:08 »
Hi fellas,
hopefully some advice will help me out.  After putting my car back together after chickening out doing the cambelt I have just returned from a one hour run down the motorway and the smell of burning rubber was immense - my kids who where in the car where complaining of feeling dizzy - which is really worrying :'(

The work I have done on it prior to rebuild:-
1. Cleaned out breathers - very slight hiss being heard from the "ecotec" part - is this normal as they where blocked prior to work  so not sure??
2. Camcovers - Checked for leaks all around that I can reach - with a paper towel which is coming out clean (car getting to Chopsdad standards ;D)
3. Pipercross air filter fitted
4. Spark Plugs replaced
5. Water pump replaced whilst accessible
6. Oil Pressure switch replaced due to leaking - isn't now :y
7. Wynns Hydraulic lifter application given to engine though smell does not smell of oil issue but rubber.
8. Aux belt (genuine GM) - really does seem to be here that the smell is coming from - do they have a "bedding in" period of a few miles or so - it was the cars first run upto full running temperature.  Also the Aux Belt Tensioner was regreased due to being dry - exactly like the cambelt dvd!!

Have left it for 2 hours and gone back to it without any conclusive direction as to what is happening - Have noticed that the engine is very hot - though the temp display is within normal.

Am I just being paranoid or is this something to worry about??

Omega General Help / The 2.6 Cambelt Lower Idler Change Date??
« on: 16 August 2007, 13:44:25 »
Been doing a bit of an investigation into the style of kit needed for my car whilst I'm away.  I can't remember what kit was in the box of cambelt goodies that I purchased from VX with the blank belt. But I do know that I have adjustable idlers/rollers installed in my car.

So the question is when did Vauxhalls change over to the none excentric bottom roller/idler?? Does anyone have engine numbers etc etc.

I don't have the engine number with me other wise would phone VX from out here.

Cheers

Omega General Help / Cambelt locking tool question?
« on: 08 August 2007, 20:58:24 »
Helllpppppp!!!!!

My cars in bits and starting to panic!!!

Am in the process of doing my cambelt and just as I was lining up to TDC to the water pump - the bloody locking tool was too shallow ie doesn't quite reach the water pump >:(
HAve looked at the box I have to lock the cams - a Sealey VSE130 and it says it's for the GM Ecotec 2.5/3.0 - Unfortunately I have a 2.6!!!! My question being as I can make a minor adjustment/extension for the water pump tool.... will the alignment gauge ( the 2 C's :-/) be the same for a 2.6???

Any help very much appreciated

Omega General Help / lot of engine work on - but what order?
« on: 04 July 2007, 23:16:53 »
Sooo, have the following to do this weekend and am planning a hefty love in with my car whilst diff is being re-conned.

Need to do the following - but to am I correct to do it in this order? What are peoples thoughts/experiences for ease of job/time - dont want to start and finish a job then start dismantling again after just putting back together.

1. Fuel/Air Filters
2. Breathers
3. Rocker gaskets
4. Spark Plugs
5. Cambelt - ( Oh am also replacing oil pressure switch as it's weeping whilst front end stripped down)

Is this a realistic weekend job?? (that's if it doesn't rain!!!! >:()

Omega General Help / Diff for Investigation !!
« on: 29 June 2007, 18:23:56 »
I changed my front wheel bearing yesterday and thought that I was in for a bit of piece and quiet but no :(

The wearing noise from the front has gone - happy days!! but this has also been masking a further noise coming from the rear end.
Have noticed a bit of a scratchy type noise coming from under the middle of the car every time I blip the accelerator of late and a reduction in this noise every time I push the clutch in. So today have had the car up on my new stands (ace they are - ta for the recommendation  :y) and with all the following disconnected/slackened off to reduce the friction noises to try and isolate :- handbrake, rear pads and rear discs - but the grinding noise (2 actually) appears to be coming from around the diff area and not the rear bearings. One noise is from the output shafts of the diff and the other higher pitch scratching/grinding noise is coming from the input shaft.  Diffs are beyond my capabilities (I think) so since I don't have a bottomless pit of money am putting it into Vauxhall for an investigation first, on Monday morning - can anyone maybe shed any light before I potentially lose a fortune at the stealers?

cheers

Omega General Help / Simple one for you - maybe??
« on: 28 June 2007, 21:44:40 »
Completed the bearing changeout today on my F/N/S wheel and had a nearly life changing event whilst doing it.

The blummin axle stand I was using (with the tyre and bearing off and just the shaft visible) pinged under the weight of the car and did this to the Axle stand (I only purchased them 2 weeks ago!!!!) ....

to say I nearly followed through was an understatement as I was lying length ways to the car.  Luckily had the foresight to have the jack still in place and the tyre underneath the sill - safety conscious - now I know the reasons why :y

Anyhow  to the question.... during this bearing escapade I managed to snap the bleed nipple off the caliper when I had finished with putting it back together.  I will be able to extract the threaded part from the caliper - but have to wait 4 days for VX to get one in  >:( - have manged to dig one out from the spares I have in the shed from my old P reg Vectra spares I still have. So before I remove it and possibly render my car useless for 4 days for an Omega spare from the stealers - is it likely to be identical threads/length etc or are they different per model?

Omega General Help / Blocked Breathers??
« on: 27 June 2007, 20:13:30 »
Have been having a close look at potential jobs needing to be done before our lonnnnggg drive to Spain in 4 weeks and am becoming a wee bit concerned these two patches and whether there is a potential leak. Have cleaned it up the other day but has come back, don't seem to be losing any oil, can't see any drips - the wife would go spare if it was - only just had the drive re-done - just the two dark patches on the left side of the engine only - oil? petrol? don't know - need advice though. All comments very much appreciated - within reason ;)

Omega General Help / Best place for axle stands?
« on: 25 June 2007, 16:02:10 »
For servicing the rear brakes??

Bearing in mind the movement of the suspension when it's jacked up and the slopey design of the axle :-/

I know it's a simpleton thing but want to be safe :-[ Pics would be ace :y

Omega General Help / Long delay after putting your footdown....
« on: 24 June 2007, 19:44:33 »
Is it normal that the response is delayed somewhat (approx 2 to 3 secs) after putting your footdown...

a)  if not normal then what's the potential cause?
b)  if it is normal, is there a way of getting more of a quicker response?

Hope this isn't too much of a numpty question!!!  :-/
Car is V6 2.6 2001
