Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Taillight bulb warning

Thanks all for the replies. Call me a cheapskate but I'll suffer the dashboard warning rather that mess about with the bulbs! I love my Omega but I've never had to mess with a car as much in my life...

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Taillight bulb warning
« on: 02 February 2008, 09:18:09 »
About a week ago I got a warning report on the dash that my headlight, and a tail light, had blown. I replaced the headlight, but the rear lights are all OK. The headlight warning has now gone, but the rear light one is still showing.

Is there any way of 'deleting' it?

Omega General Help / brake pad sensor
« on: 29 July 2008, 09:43:31 »
I've done one side of my brakes, and in the process snapped off the sensor connection that feeds through the pad. I am still getting the dashboard 'Brake pad' warning, but I'd assumed this was because the other side awaited doing. I've just had a horrible thought - is the dashboard warning going to show permanently if I don't fix the sensor, or will it go out when I've done the pads on the other side?

Anyone know the answer?

Omega General Help / Re: Very Annoyed

Pete - not an ideal solution but until you get the nuts sorted you could travel with an aerosol can of the goo that repairs a puncture whilst inflating the tyre. Only sposed to be a temp fix but I used a can on my old Cav and it lasted for years after that.

And I agree about the low life on the streets...custodial sentence for using a knife?? Chop off their knackers so they can't produce more of the same!

Just to report back - drop links finally done and the noise is gone!!

Far be it from me to offer tekky advice on here (!) but I really struggled to get one of the old drop links off - they are held on by a locking nut which seemed to get tighter rather than looser. Anyhow, after much cussing I realised I could easily get a junior hacksaw to the stubborn nut, and after 5 mins it was off! Obvious I s'pose but for me it was an achievement! May be of help to someone.

I must say that they Ebay site that sells drop links at £6.99 each may be cheap (Parts Warehouse I think?) but their service was cr@p. They got our postcode wrong = 24 hrs delay, then delivered  to the wrong number house (or that's what they say)= 5 days delay. They turned up after a week and I was not happy.

Cheers Andy!  :y

That's a wierd coincidence because I was about to post the same request as VRBA! I've looked around the site and can't see a pic which shows the various bits (although there is a How To guide without pics).

As usual, great info and advice. Thanks all - drop links it is! See if that sorts it ;)

I am getting a worrying knock that coincides with the front offside wheel going over any kind of bump. I thought at first I might have had something loose in the boot, but I'm pretty sure it's coming from the front wheel.

I imagine it's something to do with damper or the wheel itself? Not my strong points! Just wondered if there's anything obvious it could be - it seems to have arisen quite quickly, rather then having developed over a period of weeks/months?

I finally got the new pads in after undoing the bleed nipple! Unfortunately I now have very poor brakes so I'll try bleeding them. I managed to do both drop links and the knocking noises reported on a previous post have gone - thanks all for the advice.

Great site  :y

Thanks all. I've been trying to avoid opening the bleed nipple but I've given in and the piston appears to be moving very slowly back in. I'll keep pushing. I've put the caliper back on with an old pad and a new pad and that's heloped the process. I'll get the 2 new ones on eventually I think.

Good news is I've done a drop link - bugger to get off though!

Can I be ars~d starting the other side now though...
Thanks all

Will go and try again. If I undo the fluid feed will the brakes later need bleeding?

Omega General Help / Please help!! Urgent brake pad problem!
« on: 13 July 2008, 14:50:59 »
I hope someone knowledgable is online now!! I'm parked in a spot that has to be cleared by 9am tomorrow and I have a problem changing front brake pads. I got the old offside ones out (knackering the sensor in the process) and had the usual problem of moving the piston back into the caliper so the new pads would fit. It was stuck so I pressed the brake pedal to lossen it up a bit. It moved out to the extent that I can now see fresh metal on the piston, but I don't think any seal is damaged. However, now it refuses to move in at all, and there is no way I can fit the new pads and caliper back on the car. How do I move the piston in again please!??

Many thanks guys. I assume it's a straightforward job - can't see anything in the maintenance guides. I'm planning to do the drop links at the same time (..he said, trying to sound knowledgable and confident, neither of which was true..)
