Omega General Help / Anyone done *rear* suspension geometry?
« on: 13 June 2007, 16:17:45 »
Took my 'meega down to get all the geometry checked out and discovered that the rear toe-in is out (if you see what I mean!) but the adjuster bars are siezed.  £60 a side for new ones so Im going to see if I can unseize them.

Looks like the best way will be to split the ball joint and remove the entire tie-rod bar to the bench before working on it in the vice with heat/penetrating oil etc.  Just wondered if anyone had encountered this before and found a good way of sorting the problem?

Cheers

Omega General Help / Genuine Vx cats for V6?
« on: 15 July 2007, 11:17:32 »
Need to replace the cats on my 2.5 V6 auto, anyone know of the current cost on TC?

On my car the exhausts from the cats back are new and genuine GM - are the cheaper cats available from fleabay etc worth considering?

Omega General Help / Wishbone bolt part numbers?
« on: 18 May 2007, 15:50:29 »
Finally got round to doing the wishbones job to reduce the tendency to use all 3 lanes of the motorway whilst driving*

Straightforward job, until I came to the wishbone rear bolt.  Drivers side had the wrong bolt in it  >:( and the pax side would not undo as it was very very overtightened...  air impact hammer wouldnt touch it and in the end it was push the extender bar with foot time.  Which got it off  :)

Needless to say I now want to replace the bolts/nuts ... anyone have the part number for them handy?

Cheers,

Jon

* Ok, slight exaggeration but you know what I mean ;-)

Omega General Help / CCR2006 in SAFE mode - code problems
« on: 29 April 2007, 21:17:08 »
Bit of an odd one...  ran my battery flat today listening to the radio  ::) and then when I started it dipped the voltage too low and SAFE appeared on the display.  OK I thought, went off to get the paperwork for the car and got the code.

Switched ignition on (actually the engine was running at that point) pressed AS as I switched the radio on and got 10 CODE up, so I thought that was good news - a nice full set of 10 attempts!  Put the code in and got it displayed properly on the MID and then pressed AS to confirm (engine still running).

Instead of getting some sounds, I got 9 CODE.  Oooerr.   New car to me (facelift 99 model) and not had to do this before.  Havent got a carpass, but looks like I need to get one to verify the code...

Did I do anything wrong re the code entry?  Dont want to waste another go...

Omega General Help / Towbars for Estate (facelift model)?
« on: 12 April 2007, 21:34:15 »
Hi all,

Anyone got a good recommendation for a towbar for the facelift estate? (Or even better, one for sale!)  Looks like my car has had one on the back before as the boot dimples have been drilled out previously. Id like to get one that fits these standard holes without any bumper cutting. Dont mind if its non-detachable.  Any suggestions?

How does the wiring work out? Last towbar I fitted involved cutting into the wiring loom but I found on this forum a suggestion that its on a multiplug these days.  (Probably shows how long ago I fitted a towbar!)

Finding this forum a huge source of help.  Just hope I can return the help when I know more about what Im doing with these cars   :-[

Hi folks,

Need to get some exhaust parts for my facelift CDX 2.5 auto...  Everything on this forum points to the need to get a genuine GM one for long life and quiet operation so Ive binned the ideas of getting an aftermarket one.

Have enrolled in Autobarnstormers (thx for the postings on this!) so hopefully getting a trade club card soon to be able to afford it ;-)  But, in the meantime, is there anyone local to plymouth with a trade card that could help out?

As a general offer, Ive got A/C recharge equipment/gauges and am happy to help out members on this forum with simple recharges for the cost of the gas only.

Cheers

Hi folks,

Ive been lurking on this forum a while whilst Ive been looking for an Omega to replace my old Cavalier.  Ive just picked up a 2.5 facelift CDX estate and brought it the 300 miles back home... and its still working ;-)  Very comfortable drive but it wanders at speed so new wishbones are probably in order.

I didnt think the CDX came with Bose gear, but on startup the display for the CCR2006 says 'Bose Sound' briefly.  Have I got Bose audio? If so, what does that mean? Havent been able to find any amps hidden away on a brief look so far.  Either way the audio is pretty good.

Economy is about what I expected, I might do a LPG conversion before too long...

Anyway - hello to you all,

Jon

General Discussion Area / Sweepstake - which bit fails next ?
« on: 25 May 2007, 14:41:39 »
Having owned my cdx for (only) 7 or so weeks now I seem to have encountered a few of the more common problems listed on here...

1) Exhausts with stuck cat bolts that needed drilling...
2) Cam cover gaskets and breather valve clearout
3) Front wishbones
4) And most recently the heater bypass valve...

In fairness, I knew about 1) to 3) when I bought it, the other 4) was a sneak up...
So, any guesses to whats next ?  ;D

General Discussion Area / HBV failing - early warning
« on: 23 May 2007, 14:03:01 »
Just thought Id post what may have been an early warning sign that I had on my cdx just before it coughed out all that new antifreeze over the road... >:(

The A/C was recharged as soon as I got the car about 6 weeks ago... and it was great, until about 2 weeks ago when it seemed to lose its ability to cool.  It *was* working, but it wasnt great.  Then it went a bt intermittent - sometimes it would blow cold, sometimes only cool.

Then last night the 'low coolant' warning came on... this morning I discovered a drip drip drip from the back of the engine.  So today, HBV out and changed - which seems to have cured leak and AC back to ice cold.   8-)

Kevin W posted in another thread about HBVs being implicated in poor AC performance - so I thought I'd add this experience in too.

Cheers

General Discussion Area / A day under the car - and thanks!
« on: 22 April 2007, 09:53:55 »
A good day of work on the car yesterday and big thanks to all the contributors on this forum for all the maintenance guides and info.  Halfway through the jobs Id stop and get back on the forum to check things out!

Jobs done - both cam cover gaskets, breather pipes clean out, coolant system flush, new GM exhausts from the cats back, towbar install and a new crank sensor.  I discovered that one of the cam cover gaskets was aftermarket - and allegedly just a few months old.  It was rock hard and utter cr@p, plugs full of oil that side.  The other side was genuine GM and although it was old it was still in good order... plugs not wet & oily that side.  Needless to say the 4 exhaust bolts needed to be cut and drilled out which was an interesting job with the pipes still in place.  Crank sensor wire foil section was touching the exhaust manifold so that must have been getting pretty hot.  Followed the routing idea in the forum which seems much more sensible.  TB - you can keep the 700 mile high score ;-)

Jobs done - thanks all :y

Jon
