Astra J parts
« on: 06 January 2021, 18:56:44 »

My Astra J needs some bits - just seeking views please on VX alternatives:

Front discs and pads - Eicher or the more expensive Pagid?
O/S/F Lower Arm Compliance Bush - Lemforder
Coolant Elbow Thermostat Housing - Circoli of Febi

Passed mot today but these items flagged.

Presumably the coolant elbow is leaking for an MOT tester to flag it?

Any of those parts will be fine. I've always found Pagid parts to be effective and good value.

Thanks for the reply. Yes there is leak from elbow, VX want mega prices for this work.

I had the cam belt done which was good value from dealer I thought - £100 for belt kit, £120 for labour plus vat but their quote for the 3 items I detailed above adds up to over £1000.

Is it the 1.6?

Usual failure for coolant around that area is the pipe that connects from the stat housing to the throttle body, they go brittle.

Yes it is the 1.6. The reported fault is the elbow on the thermostat - will have to check.

It's common for the thermostat housing to crack too ,particularly if overtightened
I've replaced the O ring in that pipe linked above before with success (was leaking onto the alternator very slightly on Zaf B)

Yes do, never seen an issue with the stat housing, seen countless failures of this pipe  :y

The pipe i linked goes brittle along its entire length and when bad, crumbles
