Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Wanted : FL self leveling pump
« on: 24 December 2014, 14:32:39 »
As stated, and preferably one that lets the air out as well as pumping it in !! although checking out the sensor was easy with the back end as high as it is !!

I'm horrified !!

Diamond Black Geezer is openly and blatantly selling unproven PATTERN THROTTLE BODY SCREWS in this thread ..

 http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=127515.0

Has any in depth analysis on the effects the large mass of the head of those screws will have on the opening speed of the throttles ?? or the forces required to overcome the inertia of such mahoosive screw heads ?? On the DBW cars will the throttle motor cope ?? on non-DBW is the throttle cable man enough ?? What will be the effect on the cruise control mechanisms ?? Will the screws themselves cope with the environment and forces they will be required to handle ?

Is it actually SAFE to fit such unproven, overweight, possibly substandard items ??

Has there been any in depth testing of the effect the protruding head will have on the airflow through the throttles ??

The restriction to flow, and subsequent turbulence will surely reduce the available power by some 0.000001 bhp ?? The time delay on opening the overweight throttles will reduce acceleration by 0.000001 ft/sec

The combination of these two effects will be to reduce the performance of this classic 2.5 V6 to something akin to a Daewoo .. should such sacrilege be permitted on this forum ?

These may seem a good idea due to their low price, but I suggest caution before making such a momentous leap into the darkness of PATTERN PARTS

Omega General Help / Air Con Compressor
« on: 07 October 2014, 22:15:34 »
Looks like the compressor has finally given up, after being somewhat noisy for a few thousand miles.

Searching around there seem to be a few variants at vastly different prices. Does anyone have a reliable source for a compressor for a 2001 3.2 saloon ?? Looks like a new one should be just over £200 ish .. but I might have found cheap and cheerful rather than decent and reliable ....

I thought about a breaker one .. but it'll have probably done a few miles and maybe been sat unused for some while, and still cost £100 odd ... so new seems the better option ???

I have an air con guy who will empty this one then refill after I've changed the compressor for the same price as a normal recharge - he'll also change it for me for another £200 !! but I think I should be able to do that bit myself !! I seem to recall Shackeng changing one fairly recently.

Any advice/opinions/sources/part numbers gratefully accepted :)

Just like a bad penny we have returned from the latest outings in the tin tent !! We seem to have spent most of August in the thing !!

Car has done over 1200 miles with a tin tent on the back, and about 900 solo in the last month ... and has behaved impeccably  :y :y :y

Now prepping it for Newent next weekend ... and I haven't forgotten that I have to take a BBQ ... :)

On another minor point ... At the Oxford meet back in July .. did anyone borrow my low range torque wrench ?? I can't find it and that is the last time I remember seeing it .....  :)

As the title .... :(

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=43963.7410 posts #7395 and #7412

If you don't want to read that link .. short story is : Going for a full Geo Monday so I check the rear control arms - seized,  so I "tried" to free one, and failed in a spectacular fashion .. 2 new ones ordered at £83 each.. and probably VAT to add to that.

:(

Going back through my receipts, this car has been to WIM three times; June 2009 (86852 miles) after wishbones changed, September 2010 (101071 miles) after drop links and front TRE's (busy Newent that was!), and September 2011 (110176 miles) after wishbones, steering idler, front wheel bearings.

On EVERY occasion the rear "geometrical driving axis" was -0.04 (target 0.00 +/- 0.13) ... so well "within limits".... and therefore, apparently, not touched.

The only work on the rear (other than brakes etc) that has been done since the last time is a new nearside rear wheel bearing, a replacement diff, and polybush rear doughnuts.

I don't see any of those changing the rear alignment (although I could well be wrong) .... so

Should I have left "well alone" and saved myself: around £200 in parts, £50 in tools; 2 1/2 days, a fair bit of blood and skin, god knows how much that I SHOULD have put in the swear box, and a large number of paracetamols ... ??

They have obviously not been touched since I bought the car in Jan 08 with 70981 miles ....

 :-\ :-\     :'( :'( :'(

Car now has 136382 miles .. so the Lemforder wishbones lasted 26,000 odd miles
