Can anyone tell me howStardock got in to my PCis? It has arrived on my Win 10 PC without me consciously downloading it. It keeps reminding me to download Starddock 10, which is something to do with Windows. I am not happy when programs arrive unexpectedly. I downloaded an updated version of Softmaker Office recently to get the better word processor, but there was no mention of Stardock. :-\

Stardock is a software download manager .. mostly games but some utilities .. you should be able to go to settings/apps/apps & features .... scroll down to find it, uninstall. If it's not there try control panel/programs & features and do the same there.

Thanks Nige, I can see it in Programs, I just wanted to know how it got there, before I uninstalled it, in case it was a required bit of software.

Probably came with something else you downloaded ... certainly not needed, get rid of ....
Now the bit you might not wish to hear ......If it installed without your knowledge/permission it implies to me you are running in "admin" mode or you have set User Account Control (UAC) to a very low level....... which is, sorry to say this, bloody stupid !!
UAC should be set quite high, admin mode should never be used for day-to-day use ... if either of these conditions had been there you would have had to give permission for that programme to install .......

You may have missed my earlier post about my difficulty getting out of admin in Win 10 without opening an MS Acct. Which I have no wish to do. Notwithstanding that, I have been particularly cautious in not downloading anything I did not vet first.

Assuming you login as shackeng at the moment .......
Disconnect from internet. - this stops the system trying to connect to MS all the time
Open control panel/users accounts
Make new account - eg Shackleton set this up as an admin account with a password.
Once set up restart system and log in as Shackleton using the admin password
Go to control panel/user accounts, manage another account, select "shackeng" and remove admin rights... set to "user" .. up to you if you use a password, set UAC.
reboot system and login as "shackeng" .. this is now your user account without admin rights..... should you try to do something that requires admin authority you will be prompted for the admin password.....
reconnect to internet.
AFAIK that should sort it all out .. it's what I've done for quite a few years and numerous systems, both family and clients

No problem .. glad it worked .. Win 10 and Win 7 are completely different animals ..... and so they should be as life has moved on a long way since Win 7 was first envisaged !! ... At least you had moved on from XP !! .......
