Omega General Help / Re: Exhaust for 2.5 estate
« on: 15 March 2019, 11:56:45 »
Saloon and estate exhausts for any given engine are different cat back for saloon and estate.

They are NOT interchangeable. Ever.

Perfect.
What about a V6 2.5 vs V6 3.2 exhaust or V6 2.6 vs V6 3.2 - interchangeable or not?

I'm not going to create a new topic just yet, maybe some smart people can offer me some advice.
On my 3.2 saloon the silencer box is quite rusted away and needs to be replaced. If I were to get a used exhaust system from an Estate - can it be bolted right on or are the connections different? I've gone through some of the threads and they say that the length and what not are not the same. Also are the V6 exhaust systems all the same - is the 2.5 one interchangable with the 3.2 one and 2.6 with 3.0 and so on?

A second idea is to purchase a new system altogether: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Opel-Vauxhall-Omega-B-3-0-3-2-V6-Saloon-Silencer-Exhaust-System-351-/251165535819 - this would do, right?

Best regards.

Last week I ordered 2 packs of new "screws" (5 in a pack) from the Opel dealer in Estonia. Takes about a week to arrive - a total of 10 screws for 8€. I showed the "screw" to the salesman, he searched them up on his computer and gave me the bill.

Omega General Help / Re: Heater bypass valve change time (3.2 V6)

It's too late to do it myself. The car's already in the workshop and the HBV is getting replaced. I wasn't very bright when i took it to the workshop immediately, but the majority of us hold a PhD in being smart afterwards.
I did get a quote from an Estonian company that officially sells and fixes Opels. 90 something €, including the part and 1 hour of labor.

Thanks so far, but a Captain mentiones that it's a 0.9h job according to Vauxhall ( https://oldsite.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1173083927/9#9 ). Can anyone lead me to the actual page/manual where it written down.

The problem is that I came on vacation (currently in Italy) and the coolant started disappearing right after I crossed the border to Italy. Now it's in a local workshop (can't speak the language, hosts helps me translate), since I don't have nearly any tools and don't know where to shop for parts. If i understand correctly they started off with 1000€, then went to 300-400€ and now when I go back I'd like to state clearly how much the parts are worth (showing the internet website that sells the HBV) and how long labour hours are expected from the manufacturer. I understand that with no reservation the price might be higher, but it just does not seem to be a 300-400€ job. In Estonia I would've undertaken the task. One thing (that often goes wrong) I didn't check was the HBV :(. Murphy's law  ;D?

I doubt that anyone reading this is in Italy, but if you speak Italian, are near Conegliano and wish to help me with this either tomorrow or the day after, give me a shout.

Omega General Help / Heater bypass valve change time (3.2 V6)
« on: 30 July 2018, 21:41:04 »
Hello,

I've been through the topics that discuss the HBV change and it seems like a 5 min job after removing the wipers and plenum, but all-in-all my question: How long does it take to replace the HBV according to a workshop specialised in fixing Opels/Vauxhalls? Or how long does the procedure take according to the manufacturer? Any quotable/showable information is very welcome. I didn't find this from the '99 Haynes manual.
Also how long would a workshop diagnose if a coolant loss can be blamed on only the HBV and not anything else.
I am asking this so i won't be ripped off by the workshop. Too late to tackle to problem myself.

Best regards.

 :y. That's a really good idea.
Though I am still hoping that someone would have information about which differential would fit to my car apart from another 3.2 V6. The latter are quite rare where I live, I don't expect one to be scrapped here so I could buy an identical one.
OR
If someone reading this knows someone who is selling a leak- and noise-free LSD diff for 3.2 Omega automatic and is willing to post it to me to Estonia (or someone who is about to take on a journey through Europe and by some chance end up in Estonia), let me know.

I had a noise from the rear of my 2.5 estate; diff or bearing, I wondered. I parked the vehicle above my pit, supported the rear axle on axle stands, started the engine with 4th gear engaged, and descended into the pit. The noise was clearly coming from the differential.

I did suspect the wheel bearings as well, but they were checked on the repair lift. Didn't hear any noise once the wheels were turning (well as fast as a person can make them turn once stationary). And yes it's quite quiet at a left-hander.
Are there any others ways to test whether the bearings are shot or not?
Also it turned out the diff had lost some oil which was replaced (the old oil had some metal filings in it unfortunately) and now it makes a noise at higher speeds. Before it made a noise at 30-40 kmh (~20-25 mph) as well. That's where the question arises about the diffs, metal in oil is almost always a bad thing. Also the diff is slightly covered in oil, should change it sometime anyway.
So for the sake of an argument lets rule out the bearings for now. I'm going to get them checked again though.

Hello,

At elevated speeds (higher than 80 kmh/50 mph or so) and while going round a right-handed bend (at higher than 65 kmh/40 mph) the car makes a noise. I'm pretty sure it's the differential and here's my question:
From which car is it possible to take the diff from and mount it to my current 3.2 V6 (auto box)?
Haynes says that from '98 and up every 4 pot and 3.0 V6 autos had a final drive ratio of 3.9:1. Also up to '98 2.5 V6 auto and every 4 pot had a 3.9:1 diff. Are the mechanics inside a 4pot diff as strong as in a 3.0 V6?
And does anyone know what is the final drive of a 3.2 auto sold in the year 2002 in Germany?

Best regards.

General Car Chat / Omega 3.2 auto fuel consumption (LPG fitted)
« on: 25 November 2017, 15:32:55 »
Hello,

I am pondering over the fuel consumption of my 3.2 Omega auto. Currently I average ~22 imperial MPG (I'm not from the UK, the actual consumption read-out is ~12.8 L/100 km) at something like 25-26 mph (40-42 km/h) according to the on-board computer (OBC). Also about ~31.4 MPG (9L/100km) at ~62 mph (100 km/h) on 205/65R15 M+S tyres.
Since it is fitted with an LPG system, I'm interested in whether the OBC is measuring the consumption based on petrol or LPG figures (or does it measure the consumption based on oxygen flow?). The reason being, LPG has lower energy value per litre compared to petrol and ~20% more of it is required for the same energy output.

What consumption figures are you getting on your 3.2 Omega auto? Or on your LPG Omega or other cars (if the OBCs are similar). Does the OBC consumption value alter while changing between petrol and LPG)?

Best regards.

Bosch recommends changing the sensors after 160000 km, the car has done 215 something. They look quite bad/old from the outside. And yes I've already experienced the difficulty when I was trying to remove them :).
Can the sensor location be changed while the exhaust system is attached to the car?

My car has done more than double that mileage on the original sensors and they are still fine. I guess Bosch like selling sensors. ;)
But the sensors are relocated to post-cat? If so, do you know at what mileage was that done at? Also were the P0420 and P0430 codes present before post-cat relocation and did they disappear after the relocating?
Just trying to figure out if it's worth to pay the ~100€ for the double sensors and then let them be relocating or just go straight to a exhaust system workshop and get it done.

Best regards.

Omega General Help / 2.6 vs 3.2 oxygen sensor
« on: 29 August 2017, 09:05:55 »
Hello,

I'm intending to replace my oxygen sensors on my 3.2 V6. The ones which are located in between the 2 catalytic converters. The reason being I get fault codes and the check engine light is on. I've read that it is relocate oxygen sensor post cat, but before doing so I'm going to change the sensors. They seem very old, probably from the time the car rolled out of the factory.
And I've seen sensors for sale for 2.6 V6, but the 3.2 isn't on the compatibility list - are the interchangeable or not?
Also which company is preferred by the OOF - Magnet Marelli, Denso or Bosch? The latter sounds like German quality, but recently I've noticed that the oil and the fuel filter I've bought were made in Spain.

Best regards.
