General Discussion Area / Had Enough Again
« on: 13 March 2018, 18:35:37 »
Following a line of posts on my thread about Women in Iran, it it clear to me yet again that I as a women do not belong on here. It is clear that I don't fit on here with some of the very few who now post.  I just can't be bothered to play these stupid games anymore.

There was a time when being on the OOF was just fun and there was no one being, or trying to be, clever.  Just normal folk discussion on General Chat about interesting subjects, without having to justify anything particularly.

I am not expecting anything to change so I will now return to solely looking after my precious Omega, but thanks to those few who have made posting worthwhile :-* :-* :-* :y

General Discussion Area / Trouble Down At the Wind Farm
« on: 09 March 2018, 18:08:57 »
It has been announced today that the wind turbines in the World's biggest group, The London Array, off the coast of Kent, are suffering from serious corrosion on their leading edges.

Apparently it is going to cost "millions" to rectify 140 sets of blades.

This has happened just 3 years after construction, when the blades were meant to last at least 20 years.  Oh, dear! ::) ::) ::)

General Car Chat / Dream Car
« on: 08 March 2018, 20:16:44 »
Saw a dream car today, one I have not seen before, in a posh part of Kent.

It was a McLaren 570s coupe being what looked like being road tested by a mechanic.

In red.  What a lovely looking car!! 8) 8) 8) :-* :-* ;)

How much do they cost? ??? ???

I want one, now!! ;) :)

This shows how backward Iran is towards women in the 21st century:

Iran is not the only eastern country to be so prehistoric of course >:(

General Discussion Area / Hacked For The First Time
« on: 05 February 2018, 18:25:30 »
For the first time, and it had to happen eventually, my bank had to contact me late this morning due to "suspicious activity" on my account involving £500 in total.

It turns out that four "purchases" were made using my PayPal details, with two being blocked, but two for computer parts going through and due to be delivered to an address in Burton-On-Trent!

I spent all afternoon on the phone to the bank, PayPal, and Action Fraud.  The fraudulent actions have been accepted by both PayPal and my bank, with refunds being issued.

The odd thing was though, and no "expert" in any organisation I contacted, including BT, could explain why, after the attempted fraud, thousands of email's started to arrive from all over the World, with I think every language used!  Throughout the afternoon TWO emails EVERY SECOND was touching down, with the eventual grand total reaching 5,000+!!! :o :o :o :o

I have now taken action to change my email address and delete the old one, but what an effort that was with 4 different BT customer services staff failing to provide any real help to stop the crazy number of email's. As I was changing the email addresses the BT system stated it could take "up to 60 days" for any changes could be made, and none of the BT staff could help me with that.  In the end I have sorted it all, and I have stopped the rouge email's!!  >:( >:( >:(

I am so careful, and ironically have hardly used Paypal, instead using a direct debit card payment, the details of which the fraudsters used.  How I just do not know, and perhaps will never know. Passwords are changed regularly, full security measures are on my devices,  I don't click onto any emails I do not expect and am very careful to use only legitimate, well known and rated, suppliers.

A life experience indeed! ::) ::)

General Discussion Area / Boris Bridge
« on: 19 January 2018, 21:17:04 »
No one has mentioned it yet, but today Bafoon Boris suggested there should be a bridge built over the English Channel, and his French counterparts seemed to have agreed.

They probably had enjoyed too much wine as who that is sane, and English, would suggest such an idea? The French, bless them, are probably thinking that they could push more of their unwanted immigrants over a bridge into England, so it makes sense for them!!

There is the rather important matter of the Channel being full of heavy ships proceeding up and down the World's busiest shipping lanes, plus all the security implications. In addition it
would encourage even more vehicle traffic than we have now and already cannot fully check for customs and immigration purposes, let alone with Kent already well filled with Channel traffic.

Like Boris Island, something coming out of his fuzzy head and through his mouth before any real consideration of what he is suggesting.

General Car Chat / Another MOT success
« on: 12 January 2018, 09:27:16 »
Yesterday my car passed it's MOT yet again :D :D

With TC only cost £27.43, with two advisories that I will be dealing with soon.

Had a discussion with the dealership General Manager who have have got to know after my claim issues last year.  He confirmed that they stopped doing the "Trade Sales" on parts some time ago as Vx changed the terms of the scheme.  He explained Vx wanted them to increase their parts stock holding from about £200K to £700K, have dedicated phone lines and operators, and have two vans on the road just for this operation; all totally non-viable!

He did confirm that they would continue to give me full trade discounts on all services via my ABS / TC, which encouraged me to book in my car to have one of the advisories done.  No more crawling under the car for me to replace my two front wishbone bushes that are "deteriorating".  My policy is always to have these jobs done well beyond it becoming critical / an MOT failure.

With my Road Tax and MOT now under my belt, just the dreaded insurance renewal next month!! ::) ::)

The Omega lives on! :y :y :y

From playing wax 78 rpm records from the turn of the last century, such as Errico Caruso's The Lost Chord of about 1905 (single sided records).going through the 1930's, 40's, 50's and then the vinyl 33.3's, 45's, with cassettes of the 1960's, 70's, then the CD's of 1980's onwards, I have gone musically young again and joined the "streaming" revolution.

I am 16 again, downloading music from Amazon Music and Apple Music onto devices galour, via Bluetooth, playing it all through sound bars, iPads,  iPhones and iPod's.  I can see now why the young love it; no more buying "records" in shops with 40 Million (to quote Apple) songs available to me and my grandsons under a monthly membership scheme. All so easy, and I have already downloaded all my albums and singles of the past, along with current music. Fantastic!! :y :y :y :y

General Discussion Area / Rememberance
« on: 12 November 2017, 10:57:51 »
Today let us all remember our lost ones due to conflict and war.

I will go first with our family losses:

May we remember them :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(

My Great Uncle Frank "Wally" Edwards, aged 37, killed on the 30th July 1917 at Ypres

My Grandfather Thomas Freeman, aged 40, killed by a Luftwaffe bomb on the 12th September, 1940

News has been released that the concentrations of CO2 in the Earth's atmosphere surged in 2016  to the highest level recorded for over 800,000 years according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-41778089

So at the risk of being called a "socialist tree huger", which actually couldn't be further to the truth, and so, so gullible, isn't it just wise and  prudent for mankind to do everything we can NOW to reduce all CO2 output, even though there HAS been improvements in the last few years?

So we as keen motorists do not want to be restricted in any way, but what the likes of the Mayor of London is doing must go a little way to help and should be appaulded ;)

General Discussion Area / Warning; Attempted "BT" Scam
« on: 17 October 2017, 10:27:09 »
Just to warn you all that I had a telephone call this morning from an Indian sounding gentlemen purporting to be from BT.

He tried to convince me that my Broadband connection had been "compromised by criminals"  - there was "Criminals using my connection", and he (tried) to explain that my constant blue light on my router without any other flashing lights proved his case.  I told him he was a scammer and fxck off!  He phoned back and complained about the way I spoke to him as he was trying to help me; to which I replied "you are a scammer, fxck off and I am going to ring BT!  I put the phone down.

Unusually both his calls gave an ID - 07586084673   and    01639 790466

All this has been reported to BT's Fraud Department and they will pursue the case.

Be careful! :-* :-* ;)

General Discussion Area / Alternative For Deutschland
« on: 25 September 2017, 16:29:49 »
Well no one else has mentioned it yet, so I will.

The AFD have secured 12.6% of the German vote, which gives them 13.3%, or 94, of the seats available.

Their leadership is in trouble though as already splits in their ranks have broken out.  However this result for a far right wing party is historic, as such a party has not been in the Reichstag Bundestag  since 1961. Their main policy is to rid German of all the immigrants.  Oh dear, here we go again!! ::) ::)

General Discussion Area / Love Liverpool
« on: 02 September 2017, 16:18:30 »
At last I have managed to spend 12 days around and in Liverpool.  For decades I have wanted to spend some real time in this City, apart from going there on business.

What a fantastic, interesting and vibrant City it is.  The people, without exception were fantastic; as usual with the North they talked to you, smiled, passed the time of day freely with you and were so helpful.  I'm a true Southerner, and do not want to sound patronizing in any way, but if I could practically do it I would move to Liverpool.

Of course I spent time on the Mersey Ferry, a bus explorer trip, and visited the Beatles Story, along with going past both Evertons and Liverpool FC grounds, but I realise there is far, far more to this lovely City which I managed to see a lot of.  Yes, I had Beatles, along with Jerry and The Pacemakers, songs going through my head constantly, but then I felt so relaxed and at peace.  In London I'm afraid you get none of all that, just hustle and bustle, coupled with indifference, or just plain rudeness, most of the time!

Good Luck Liverpool!! :y :y :y :y
