Omega Electrical and Audio Help / NCDC2013 Advice please
« on: 07 April 2017, 21:16:59 »
There is one of these units available, although the CD changer is stuck.

Buying the unit itself would only be for spare parts, but it comes with a colour screen.  This is what interests me.

How easy is it to change my current small, half  b&w screen, to the colour one?

I have a piece of plastic covering the opening were a full screen can go.  Is that going to stop any easy conversion please?

General Car Chat / CD Player Cleaner
« on: 06 April 2017, 17:18:30 »
I have been having trouble with my CD player.  It started not to recognise discs 3 and 4 in the magazine, then would not  recognise any discs at all.  I was thinking of going to a local specialist car audio company and getting them to sort it out, at no doubt a fair price.

But then I stopped myself and thought it could be a dirty lens issue.  So I bought Allsop ProLens Laser Lens Diagnostic Cleaner for DVD and CD for £7.49, with free postage.  Used it once in my player and all is suddenly sorted!

What a great product, that also runs through tracks of diagonistic checks on your system, it's speakers, the lot! :y :y :y

Omega General Help / Damaged 3.2 Engine
« on: 04 April 2017, 10:03:18 »
There is a 3.2 57k mile complete engine for sale at £140.

It is described as "cheap to repair" after the cam belt failed at low revs.  Now, would this be a good buy to:

                           a) Repair (Thinking that this may not be minor damage at all!)

                                                                   or

                           b) Keeping for spares (Everything is still on the engine)

                              What do you think ?

General Car Chat / Spotted a 1970s Vauxhall Cresta PC Delux
« on: 31 March 2017, 16:00:03 »
Coming out of Sainsbury's car park and going in was this immaculate 1970s Vauxhall Cresta PC Estate.

A very rare example I think, but it looked good. :y

I still prefer the 1960s Vauxhall Cresta PA though, which one I notice is one for sale on one online site - at £8,000 :-* :-* 8) 8)

Now these cars were always better than any BL offering :D :D ;)

I have the chance of acquiring a rear parcel shelf blind for an Elite Omega.

Would it be straightforward to fit to my late 3.2 please?

Guidance required please.  Like will the wiring be already available built in to my car (I will have the switch :)

General Car Chat / Driverless Car Crash
« on: 27 March 2017, 16:37:59 »
Well, what so many of us predicted has happened:

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/world/ubers-driverless-car-pilot-halted-after-dramatic-crash-in-america-a3499376.html

Now perhaps they will really think about all the insurance and legal implications of having driverless cars on our roads with standard driven ones! ::) ::) :D

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Cooling Fans x2 on 3.2
« on: 20 March 2017, 19:46:21 »
Since I have got my car back from the body shop the two fans seem not to work when the engine temperature becomes high (90 degrees).

In the crash one of the fans was damaged, so two replacement fans were installed.

What I want to check on is what fuses / relays could have blown please?

No 4 fuse is one of the 15A fuses shown in the manual as being for the cooling fan, but this position is empty with no electrical socket to take a fuse. The other fuses shown as covering a "cooling fan" are intact.

Any ideas please on what to look for to resolve?

The body shop will be looking into the problem tomorrow but I would sooner sort it before then.

Thanks. :-*

General Discussion Area / SS GB

Does anyone else find this series very chilling?

As an historian who dislikes "counter factual" history, this I must admit, is something else.

If you do the correct thing and place yourself in the context of a Brit ln England during 1941, how sure can we be that we would not have accepted the German presence as the new ruling power.

At this time you would not have known about any concentration camps, the Hollocaust would not have started, and in this scenario Hitler has not invaded Russia. You would know about the "positives" of Hitler as a man who had led Germany to greatness again (echoes of Trump) with full employment, new autobahns, and a impressive military. Could I have been impressed by all that? Would all the banners, flags, and propaganda have convinced me to support the Nazis?  I have always thought that as a German woman I would have stood with the other thousands shouting Heil Hitler!

As I am from a Jewish background on one side of the family I know that I would not have been born to the family I did, even though my father was greatly impressed by the German military. We know how terrible it would have been later for everyone if the Germans had won the Battle of Britain and crossed the Channel. BUT, in the context of the time, and perhaps as a Brit from a working class background who detested the ruling British classes, or someone from the middle classes who craved power, could I have joined the SS?

It is chilling just to see images of Nazis flags around London, but that is with the knowledge we have today. Highly intreging and interesting though.

Thank God it IS just counter factual history.

I have posted about my recent experience with my miggy, and the battle I am fighting to keep it on the road.  That war is still ongoing, although the insurance company have unofficially agreed with the bodyshop owner I am using that they will meet a higher repair cost than they originally offered.  This was after I made my feelings clear and made them the offer that if they could find an example with the same spec, service history, mileage, and condition, being built in the last month of Omega production, I would settle. In fairness to them (Ageas) they have been VERY helpful and willing to meet MY expectations with any settlement. They have been open to negotiations all the way through with us ALL working together towards a resolution..  We shall see, and I will be happy once the car is back in shape!

This battle is after I had just concluded another war with Vauxhall at Luton. It involved an air conditioning compressor replacement that I had fitted by their main dealer Caffyns in Ashford in 2014. During the annual service in 2016 it was found to be covered in oil.  It was then fully investigated by a Vx Caffyns technician who declared it defunct.

I then paid £964.16 to have the compressor replaced. Immediately I commenced the process to recover my costs through Vauxhall's own complaint system at Luton. Two telephone calls to Luton produced no result, with only "the warranty expired in 2015" being quoted as a reason for not helping me.

I then sent a letter to them detailing out my dissatisfaction and my claim for £964.16 under the terms of the Trade Descriptions Act 1979, citing "Not Fit For Purpose". The executive resolutions team at Vx then wrote to me, again refusing to meet my claim as my car was "over 8 years old", and ALL parts only carry a years warranty.

I then responded with a "Letter before Court Action" making it clear again of my rights under the terms of the Trade Descriptions Act 1979" and that my car being over 8 years old, and the parts carrying only one years warranty did not negate my legal rights. As a retired senior retail business manager I was now in my element, using my professional skills and knowledge to deal with the nonsense being quoted to me.

A letter from the solicitors of General Motors UK then arrived fully itemising why I would not receive any compensation. I then initiated County Court action against Vauxhall Luton, making it clear that it was them who agreed to take full responsibility for my claim away from their main dealer Caffyns who ordinarily would be classed as the supplier of the services and parts, and therefore the defendant in any court action. The Vx web site also quoted their parts had a "minimum 1 years warranty", plus the parts were supplied by Vauxhall Luton.

Various court papers then flowed between the court, me and Vauxhall / GM. I assembled a full legal file on the case for the court, with all my documentary evidence and detailed costings, and these were sent to all parties. I then also wrote to Caffyns Head Office, sending them a legal file.

Next morning, after sending my file, the General Manager of the local Caffyns telephoned to offer, as a "goodwill gesture" full payment of my claim, including the £60 of county court fees. I soon received a cheque for the full £1,024.16 of my claim.

The morale is you NEVER give up and just accept a company's statements of limited responsibility. Check your legal rights, and be prepared for battle.  Yes, I have the advantage of professional administration skills and knowledge which includes civil and criminal law that I frequently used and still do, on occasions like now. But you can do it as well.

Don't let the buggers ground you down! If your claim is reasonable and can be backed up in law, go for it! ;)

General Car Chat / My car is back on the Forum!!
« on: 04 March 2017, 15:50:00 »
Hi all! Yes I, Lizzie Zoom, is back.

Still got my May 2003 Omega 3.2 Elite.

Had my first "my fault" prang in it 8 days ago. Bent front bumper, bonnet, lights and front chassis cross member.

Has the expected "argument with my insurance company, Ageas, over "Beyond Economical Repair" assessment, but now winning the battle with the assistance of a great owner driver body shop business near me who specialises in restoring cars as well as repairing them. Working with him, I have now secured replacement front end parts, and I have ordered/bought some of the last new headlights from Vx Luton through my trusted and much used Vx main dealer. My "new body shop friend", who has, with me, been pursuading Ageas, who it must be said have been VERY co-operative and flexiable, to meet his repair estimate, should hopefully start rebuilding work on my beloved car this week.

Fingers crossed!!  :D
