Omega General Help / Re: Random locking issue
« on: 29 June 2021, 19:35:16 »
Next question as am getting confused now….

Fitted another motor in the rain yesterday and (assuming that I fitted the replacement and not the original in the rushing around), the door is doing the same thing, unlock car fine, go to relock and osr door stays unlocked then locks when you try again and the door pin is forced upwards until you press down hard or relock.

Have taken both old ones apart and checked the micro switches, each one works fine and runs continuity on either both outer pins or middle and pin nearest the motor depending on the switch position. This can be repeated endless times with either confirmed open or closed circuit. Check using test power and can deadlock and unlock/lock fine as well.

The door latch has been removed and cleaned then regreased and feels relatively free to move.

Thought maybe CDL module issue but would it only affect the osr door?

Will probably swap current motor back out for the one I assume I removed yesterday to check if I did actually swap it out and to recheck connections, but other than that, I am stumped a little on this at the moment

Another update on this….

In the last week or so it started doing it again. Either unlock and relock or push the inner pin up and down once and it worked fine.

Today the door did not lock so tried to push the pin down and it felt stuck until I managed to overcome the solenoid and feel it pushing down the work drive.

Came back to the car just now and unlocked fine.

Another solenoid dying or something else? I originally thought maybe the door latch was sticking a little so was going to remove and thoroughly grease that initially.

And it is done……….. for now

All fitted up but had to replace a seal as I must have pinched it fitting it all together as Nitrogen test showed a big leak. Swapped out from one from Parts Dept (helps being the Manager) and all holding vacuum, refilled and cold again.

Yay….

Amusing that most of the techs did not know I actually do this sort of thing myself as they leave bigger aircon jobs to the older guys 😳

Cooler pipes are built into the radiator but are a pain to deal with if you have to disconnect them.

Condenser was ordered yesterday morning, arrived today around 12.30pm, fitted by 5pm.

Radiator stayed connected but battery had to be removed to allow it to go back far enough, along with the air box assembly on the other side.

You need 2 people ideally, 1 can take the old unit out but you need 2 people to hold the radiator and adjust the new unit into place as the connection pipes make the unit quite wide. Just got to take it to work next week, nitrogen test it and if all good, re-gas once the new HP valve is here.

Old unit had gone in style and pushed the lower fins out of the way with the exiting pressure and covered the whole undertray in PAG oil and dye 🤬

Well, condenser looks like it has a split in it at the bottom with age (corroded around the area) so recovered anything left out of it (only expecting to pull any oil, not gas) and got 3ml of oil and over 100g of gas 😳

Additionally, the HP valve I had cleaned up and was not leaking when I went to it this morning is now looking like it is leaking after disconnecting hoses so have ordered a valve from VX, apparently should be factory order, just over £5+vat. Will find out next week.

New condenser should be with me by end of next week as well so will see what happens at that point…….
Ooooooo........gonna be a million degrees centigrade on Monday  ;D

Tell me about it 😢😢

Good news is that I have my 4x4 Sierra Saph which still has its original R12 aircon working 😄

Blooming typical, just got everything done on the estate, including cleaning the high pressure aircon filler valve and some other niggles, only to have warm air again on the way home yesterday after work.

Got home, checked the aircon pipes, both warm. Removed front grille and whole bottom inch of the condenser is liquid green from the due I put in.

Going to order a condenser today but wondering what easiest way to remove it is on an X20XEV. Don’t really want to disconnect, drain and remove whole radiator as autobox pipes will need disconnecting and that was a pain the last time.

Anyone done this any other ways?

Well, my cars are:

Omega 23 years old
Sierra 29 years old
Golf 28 years old
Escort cab 35 years old
Ford Pop 68 years old
Nissan 22 years old
Focus 16 years old

Average is 31.57 years

And that excludes all the motorbikes in the collection (77 in total for me and my father, newest is 2000, oldest is 1911) and most of them are 1940s-1960s and almost all British

They didn't build or sell you your teeth. The 'hygienist' bit is more involved than a quick wipe with a damp rag and a Black Ice magic tree.

But they are taking on the contract for the routine maintenance, just the same as a dealer.

The hygienist cleaning thing has been around for almost 10 years I would say from my dentists. I just refuse it, if they think it should be done, do it as part of the check over.

As I say to them, if you took your car to a main dealer for a service, you would expect a courtesy valet, what is the difference?

Just got my 1st this morning at the Excel Centre in Docklands.

Got there early, seen early, out early. Hardly anyone there but space for literally hundreds at a time.
